My sister recently went to Japan for a couple of weeks. While there, she got me this knife from a local knife maker with a good reputation.

The blade shows a san mai construction, but the bolster is not integral to the blade. I believe that the handle material is ebony. The handle shape looks to be of the European design instead of the traditional Japanese design.

I do not wish to come across as ungrateful or nit-picky. This is a freakishly awesome gift!
