I just gotta wonder if WR Case & Sons knife company is bi-polar. Seem like a strange opening statement? Yeah...I know. Here is why the question entered my mind...

I've seen Case knives...where the quality control is excellent. The knives are truly wonderful and thoroughly enjoyable tools. And then I've seen Case knives where I'd swear that the Quality Control people must have been napping. Really, anymore, opening up a new Case knife box is kind of like Christmas...in the sense that you just don't know what you are really going to get.

Fortunately, the Small Saddlehorn shown in this photo is a great example of what Case can do when it is paying attention. Or...perhaps this is merely an example of "luck of the draw". For the most part...I believe it to be a bit more intentional than that; the reason that I say this is because I've got a couple of Small Saddlehorns and both exhibit "good" quality. Since both are equally well made, it seems logical that "somebody" is paying attention. Could be that the people working on the Small Saddlehorns are more engaged in their jobs? Hard to say. In any event...

This green bone handled knife is a real pleasure to have. The fit and finish are "high and tight" with everything well polished. The springs are reasonably strong. The blades are nicely centered. The blades are shaving sharp. I really wish that Case could hit this standard of quality with every knife that they produced. Candidly, I'd buy more of their blades if that kind of consistency was evident in their products.
