The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
While there is no doubt that production knife manufacturers are, in general, putting out "better" products than ever, they will always fall short of the custom experience. Shown in this photo is a knife, custom made for me by HHH Knives. The humble photo here doesn't even begin to show the true and awesome beauty of this knife. Randy has better photos of it on his page. The impetus for this knife project began after I saw a photo of a Chopper that Randy did for another IKC member. It was so breathtaking that I had to have Randy make one for me. I loved the pattern...but wanted some touches that made the knife "mine". As Randy and I worked out the details, I was reminded that the custom experience is a wonderful one. Randy worked patiently with me...presenting different handle materials...and bouncing ideas back and forth. The use of multiple materials was a concept that inspired both of us...and so what you see here includes Green Birch Burl, Ebony, White spacers and mosaic pins for the handle. The blade is a Damascus steel with a very interesting pattern. The filework on the spine of the blade was inspired by the fretboard inlay on one of my guitars...and while this specific photo doesn't show it off well...it is truly magnificient. As Randy reminded me, a custom blade is a reflection of it's owner. As an outdoorsman, I love forest colors...and the flow of nature. From the shape of the blade and the handle, through the coloration of the materials used...this knife expresses my appreciation for the great outdoors. Randy's workmanship is truly splendid! Each and every facet of the knife is fantastically beautiful ; resulting in a steel expression that is as much art as it is utility. Randy is a true craftsman...a consummate professional...and one of the knife world's most gifted talents. If any of you are interested in owning a custom blade, I recommend him VERY HIGHLY.
If you haven't checked out Randy's page here on iKnifeCollector, you should; it'll give you a very impressive sampling of his work. Also, you can check out his web site at: www.hhhknives.com.
