Sometimes...when you are out in the wilds...you need a really big blade. How "big is big"? In my travels, I've found that the answer to that question varies depending upon who you ask. To me, there is "big"...and then there is FREAKING BIG. Shown in this photo is my TOPS Steel Eagle III. This BIG bird is nearly the size of a short sword. At 16 3/4" long, it is nearly as big as some machetes. The 1095 steel blade is 11 1/2" long and 1/4" thick. As is always the case with my TOPS knives, the detailing is GREAT. So why carry such a huge piece of steel? Well...where I go, there is some awfully thick brush. While hard to get through...it also makes good fire material. Also...see that long saw blade on the spine? Yeah...you get the idea. In spite of the size of this knife, it feels relatively fast in the hand. It is nicely balanced and moves easily. Would I use it like a machete? Well not unless I had to. Would I saw and chop some wood with it? Yeah...definitely.

Ah dang, I forgot to add a reply to Mike.

It's made out of 1095 steel so the price will be along the middle to middle-upper layer of the 'price' chart. Just guessing, 300 maybe a bit more depending on the sheath solution you choose.

Not too big Chris. Personally my HHH Chopper with a 12 inch blade feels a bit small to be honest. I'm more used to carrying around a 7 lbs Katana in my right hand so honestly, well it feels small and very light ;)

But I seen you now buddy! It's time to put Randy on an outdoors small sword project :)

But see where the saw notches end? I see this knife more as a cleaver, it's pretty clear to me that it's intended uses are for heavy batoning - although the saber grind will make it harder on you to choke the blade through the wood.
Some nice design aspects on it but it falls short on that saber grind, it really beats the purpose of it's whole design (although one can discuss that it's uses are offensive too but in my mind they should have skipped that aspect and went with a full flat grind with some space saved for the saw spine).

Have fun whacking stuff around buddy :)
