Thanks again, Wayne! I always appreciate your input on Swiss knives! I thought the scales might possibly be horn, also? They feel very smooth and unlike wood. But I'm pretty certain they are wood, nonetheless. I had just posted another angle of the file below the other photo that you commented on. I will post it here also...

It is a pretty old piece. I am guessing the scales are horn? Lots of wear but still a nice addition to the SAK collection!

BTW, it is a nail file just more along the lines of what most European cutlers make. It has a small plain end for cleaning under the fingernails. You can see the file in one of the other photos.
