Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Received a piece of 300 year old sticky pine from Andy the Axeman. I decided I will cut it in two for two full tang knives. I will make one Bowie for myself and a Nessmuk for Andy. Attached herewith the progress pics. I have forged the Bowie from an old file and the Nessmuk from a Land Cruiser suspension. I have finished the Bowie off with a Bleach etch to give it an aged look, and it will receive an iron guard and pommel. Will update this blog with progress pics as I go along.

This is what I have always used to start fires with. We call it KINLIN (kindling) here where I live and I still use it to start my fires in the winter to this day. This is the heart of a pine tree and is more rich or "sticky" as you call it according to the type and age of the tree from where it came. I never thought about making handles from it for anything; but, if you can find pieces with a straight grain and have the time and or means to dry it out, it should make some AWSOME looking handles that will be very durable as long as you do not try to dry it too fast.

OK - have been a bit slow on this one as I'm busy preparing for a knife show. I have rough gtoundthr Nessmuk and it needs to be heat treated, so no pics of this just yet.

The bowie handle has been cut, drilled for the tang and profiled, I have finished and fitted the guard. Will complete this knife this weekend and then focus on the Nessmuk.
