Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I got a new knife book today.  It's a title most of you probably already have but I am enjoying it and finding useful information in the Big Book Of Pocket Knives, Identification and Values by Ron Stuart.

You already know I collect switchblades.  But recentl also started picking up some folders, which is how I wound up here...and I am so very glad that I did!!

But I wish I had this book long ago.  This is the 4th Edition o it has been helping folks for a long time.

Speaking of helping people...I love Barlows and recently ther has been a mini-flood of old Barlows on eBay.  Some Russells and even one original old Samuel Barlow Barlow.  I bid on most...and won one low end knife.  The others all got grabbed by peopler at the last minute.  So I told myself "You should develop a program that can snag these knives for ou and beat these guys at their own game".  Well of course someone invented that program a few years ago and now there is a ton of the "snipe" programs that allow you to steal (!) an auction item at the very last second right out of some guys hands.

So I used one of the oldest of these sniping programs last night and...I won each auction I used it on.  They weren't any big expensive items with lots of bidders, ut they weren't cheap and a couple had 20+ bidders.  And I was comfortable with my bids, I didn't overbid.

I learn a little every day I hope.  That's why I stick around here and keep coming back.  I learn from all of you.

I sure wish I woulda learned some of these things a few weeks ago and been able to win a couple of those Barlows!!

p.s. if anyone has some old Barlows for sale I am in the market.

Steve I would be honored to go knife hunting with you!  Maybe we can make it happen one of these days, huh?  Find some treasures & haggle ourselves some great deals.  The iKnife community would never believe our stories...

I like that Robert!  "old age is only for the tough"  I have to send my 92 year old cousin a get well card (just got out of hospital) and I will tell him that one.  He will have a big laugh.  And let me know when you want that Frost knife Robert.  She is waiting for her trip down South.

Oh and today was a ton o' knives in the mail & UPS day for me.  I got my box of 10 unsearched knives which turned out to be 13.  Nothing amazing but a couple of decent knives.

Including Imperial, KutMaster, a nice Boker, a few novelty knifes (Empire State Building lithograph, a Simmons Hardware Co, a "Happy Holidays" from Henry Sundvik---is he here??  Ha hah, a Lehigh Safety Shoe Co and other junk. ) If I have a yard sale I can sell them for lik $7.50 each and get my money back plus keep a few for myself.

Plus I got the one Russell Barlow that I bought 1 1/2 weeks ago.  Light colored bone handles.  Good shape.  Engraving on the tangs and on the bolsters are nice and clear.  I bought another one (better) from a guy at All About Pocket Knives (maybe one of you guys sell there???).  I can add them to my little Barlow collection.  I have four now, if you can call that a "collection".

Robert I got the Big Book of Pocket Knives at Amazon.  It already steered me away from a couple of knives that I liked but were way overpriced.  Plus it has a good section on what companies are collectible vs highly collectible vs not so collectible.  4th edition of the book so people must trust it.   $13.16 new plus there are used ones at half that.  http://www.amazon.com/Big-Book-Pocket-Knives-Edition/dp/1574326309/...

I am in a wheelchair for now and can't drive so am semi stuck with internet sites except when I can convince someone to take me on an antique store trek or a da of yard sales or 2x per year our ig Gun & Knife show.  But mostly for me it's the internet so books and you guys are blessings.  And now that sniping program  best is it is free and easy to use  http://www.esnipe.com/  if you get tired of losing bids by $1 at the last 10 seconds all the time?  They are using this.

I would much rather go person to person.  I need to find a knife collecting buddy that won't mind taking me with them.

Guys I am forced to buy to buy from Ebay because I am insulated from the knife world by being from south Louisiana and not having many places to buy knives. I make some fair deals and am also taking advantage of from time to time, recent example, check out the AG Russell Group and my new Bertram Hen and Rooster. Although, I didn't loose out money wise, because I ended up with a good knife at a good price, it just wasn't what I was after. I think any book that will help me buy knives and not get taken advantage of will really be a big help. How do I get one?
