The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
I have this knife made by Dodson. What I know about it is my dad bought this knife in Hot Springs, AR in the mid 70's from the maker who was a surgeon if I remember the story correctly. It has number one stamped on the butt. I do not remember if this was the guys first knife or the first one of this design. If I remember correctly he called it a Razorback Special.
I was wondering if anybody could tell me more about the maker and maybe what it might be worth.

This is what I found out about my knife for those that might want to know.
This knife was made by Frank C. Dodson. This was probably his first knife. By my research, he started making knives in 1977. This knife is a semi-skinner. The handle is zebra wood and the butt and guard are brass. The blade is probably a carbon Steel. It has a value of probably $400-$500. Thanks!
Jan, Mr. Cook has no information.:(
Thanks Jan. I had seen the Phillip Dobson site before I didn't think he was old enough. I will try Mr. Cook..
http://www.phillipdobson.com/ is an option but I am doubting it, he looks to young and the tang stamp is not right but that can change many times over for a maker
http://jrcookknives.com/ Mr Cook is a member of the Arkansas custom knifemaker assoc. He may have some clues, maybe Dodson was a member.
The last possibility is that he purchased it at the show the assoc puts on every year in Little Rock. If that is the case maybe someone in the assoc will know who he is, even if he was from out of state. I hope this helps and please let us know?
