If you have been a member here for very long you have probably observed our groups and their activity levels- some of them take off, while others struggle and even some others are vacated. Starting and managing an iKC Group isn't a slam dunk- it takes time and energy, and commitment on the leaders part, as well as active member participation.
There are two factors I've observed (and experienced with my own groups) that have the biggest impact on their success. One is the overall appeal of the group and in other cases, the group's ability to get over the hump is a major function of the Group Leaders' schedule and ability to remain committed to the group. I know of a few leaders whose work and/or school demands have changed since they started their group. I'm working with them to get someone in the group to help moderate until the leaders are able to get back in the swing of things. In other cases, the best thing to do is close them at this time. Recently several groups were closed, including several I started that failed to get off the ground and/or ones that simply didn't have enough interest from community members at this time.
If you are part of a group that does close, please continue to help us out by joining a group with a broader subject matter and jumping in there. Another suggestion is to start a Discussion Topic in the forums to pick up on any discussions you found interesting.
