Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

A long while back an ex-member said "there is just so much you can say about knives" and that we would run out of things to talk about. I personally don't think so. I could talk knives all day long and the night too. There is so many aspects of knife collecting and using that we may be talking for years to come.

One question I'd like to pose to ya'll is "what is your favorite knife topic"? Steels, handle materials, history etc.

My favorite topic is Hammer Forging knife blades.

    Let's Talk!

Ricky, I know of one nice book a friend and great Hammer Forged Knife builder wrote but it's mostly about knife care. His name is Matt Lesniewski of ML Knives. I might add he makes great knives.

You don't have to make a Hammer Forged Knife to be able to enjoy them. They are usually more expensive than the Stock Removal Knives but not always. I do know of some that are really reasonable and are really well made. If you want his name let me know. I do recommend his work.

Robert,

I too like the way knives used to be built . I was very interested in Blacksmithing, but I do not have the time, or the money to start another hobby. Has anyone seen what just a good anvil costs ? I am interested in some reading material on this Robert, can you recommend any ? I read a book ""Sheffield Exhibition Knives " by Old  World Publishing , Ltd" It had great detail on how the knives were made , the hammer forging information was very good. You mentioned the period knives also, I too like these, I sometimes think I was born in the wrong century. As far as talking about knives, I do have a hard time getting people around me interested in this, to most they are just knives, and most people I am around do not carry a knife all the time.  I am glad to meet people here to talk knives to and keep my interest up.

I also love "Period Knives" [ knives made like those from 1730 to 1880 ]. I love the old time way they look and function. Anyone else enjoy this style knife?

For me it is the story behind the knife, estate sale, gun show find.  How did this knife end up in my hands?  That is what drives me to run around looking.  If some one cares enough to hold on to a knife for years and years and it ends up in an estate sale or on ebay, I feel I owe it to the knife to give it a good home.

I hope our members see this as way to express what they enjoy talking about and talk to us about it.
