Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

The knives are on thier way, lets have a little fun and get to know our neighbors

So here are the guidelines

Post a picture of your IKC Community knife with something unique to your area and enter it here.  Lets see how creative we can be with our own state or country

I will choose 3 impartial judges.  I think we run this from November 9th to November 24th.  Lets see if we can get every knife to show back up on here.  Ready, set, SHOOT YOUR PICTURES!

Ron,

Your little whittler has seen most of the town, nice to know he could probably find his way home if lost LOL

JJ,

Well the park is closed but Little G seems to have had his way for a lovely day.  Has he  made it to the porch to do some work of his own yet or is he still getting ideas on what he will be doing?

Alexander,

That is horrible.  I was just reading this and I am glad you like the knife but next year we have to work something out.  I am thinking I will have the internationals sent to me and I will mail them out.  I understand from speaking to some of the other internationals that they are more likely to see the full charge when they come from a company rather than from a friend.

Can't wait to see some "Dutch" pics :)  and tell me what your thoughts are on the etch?

Wow! Alexander, I can certainly see why you'd be "miffed." I can assure you that if I were assessed an additional $45 in fees I would be much worse than miffed. Since our forum is family oriented I won't use the word I'm thinking of to describe what I might be, but...at the very least, I would be mad.

Is it your Country's Customs office that determines how much to charge goods that are coming across their border ? Like an import tax? Forgive my naivete on this subject. I only know that I have heard others who live in the EU make similar complaints.

I hope once the sting of these extra charges subsides you will be able to find some love in your heart for the Little Geppetto. Perhaps take the little guy out to the countryside for a few snapshots? *nudge nudge ~ wink wink*

Best wishes and cheers from the States!

Ron

Hey Ron,

this happends quite a lot. There are a couple of triggers it seems. Officially anything over €25 will get charged
  • around €13 ($18) or so in paperwork fees by the post provider
  • 20% VAT taxes
  • and another 5% or so in import taxes depending on how expensive the article was but this is only for items which are over €165 I think.

So in this case $135 knife = €105, 20% of that is €21/€22 or so + €14 on paperwork fees = €36 = $45.

And yes I HATE it. It adds 30% to almost every purchase I make in the states. And buying locally doesn't really help because often the local prices are even more than that total added up sum. You know how you guys can buy a Spyderco Tenacious over there for around $30? Yeah....my local shop has that one priced at €50 which is around $63 US really.

Nevertheless I really like the little knife. It's much the same size as my custom Tim Britton and I really like that size. It's a little chunkier though.

The funny thing is that sometimes things get through without extra charges and that kind of gives me false hope....

It's a no win situation really.

Anyhow I have to go and see if I can take a nice "Dutch" picture of that little knife.

Little "G" and I went to the park/ramp at the lake today.  Can you imagine that it's closed for the winter already.

So we decided to come home and do what he wanted to do.

Had a reunion, (of sorts) with the pit carving class baskets and the remainder of the "Maverick" baskets.

Turned out to be a nice afternoon.

No doubts about Christine. I think that goes without saying. So, uh...something happened to your knife? As in, you haven't got one...yet?

C'mon, Hog! Inquiring minds need to know! What happened?

I took a short walk yesterday and picked up a few items for photos.  A stalk of a yucca plant with the seed pods opened and a piece of an old bone, probably antelope.  The horned toad is a brass full-size likeness of the native critter, and the postcard is a replica of the license plates issued to supporters of the University of Wyoming for a fee.

Well the knife arrived. But I ended up paying an extra $45 or so in fees. So I'm happy and at the same time I'm kind of miffed.

Trying to find some inspiration, Ron.  Only place that even has my towns name on it is the Post Office.  The "Welcome To" signs have been neglected and vandalized to the point that there are only 2 group signs left.  Thinking more regionally now.  (Guess it's a trip to the Lake?)

Here are a few more from me and my Lil' Geppetto...

Pepper Tree Burls...

Huck Finn statue in front of Sierra Madre City Hall...

Look closely and you will see Geppetto perched atop the sign, right in the middle...

Geppetto rests on a sidewalk that was constructed in 1995 and winds its way through the park...

My knife has definitely been making the rounds in my hometown of Sierra Madre, California! I sure would like to see some photos from other parts of the Country. And, hopefully we'll start to see the Geppetto making itself at home in some other Countries, too?

Cheers, everyone, from Geppetto Sierra Madre!
