The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
I was wondering about The Jouni Folder knife made in Finland. It's blade is made out of AUS-8 stainless. Is this a good material for a blade. Would it be hard to put an edge on? It looks like a very nice knife.

AUS-8 is considered to be a very good steel, not outstanding but quite good all around. Nothing to sneeze at. Lots of nice knives use it.
The problem with that question is if you ask 10 people you're going to get 10 different answers. Here's an article worth reading: http://www.bestpocketknifereview.com/what-is-the-best-knife-blade-s...
My all time favorite steel is basiclly 1095 steel. Sharpens well, and holds an edge fairly well. D2 is my next favorite . Holds an edge a long time but is also a bit harder to sharpen.
I have many knives that use AUS-8 steel and in my opinion it's a great steel for everyday tasks. Mr. Hanner mentioned 1095 or D2, these are in a league of their own. Those I feel are good hard use bush craft steels. I do not think you will be let down by the AUS-8.
If you like Finnish folders, you may like these brands. I have one of the Enzo Birk 75 and love it.
