I caught this when you posted it on iKC's fb pg & followed it to the article.

It is nice to know both that the tools will be kept together & that the trade will be carried on. Some of those tools are likely very job specific. Would have been a shame to see them split up & spread across .. who knows where.

.

And .. what a great set-up for someone new in the craft .. a complete set of specialized tools that have already proven their worth. Would likely take years to assemble a similar collection. Wonder if the younger gentleman apprenticed under the old master ..or.. how he came about getting all the tools. If it was mentioned in the article .. I missed it. Would be interesting to know.

Nice article ..&.. there's far too little "good" news in the news these days. This one was "good" news !!

Isn't it nice to see a news item that could definitely be called good news?
It must be wonderful to have a set of tools that have been so well used.

A "stiddy" is something I have a great desire for. I am very fortunate to have the tools I have ..but.. a stiddy has eluded me.

I would gladly settle for about a 6~8" section of railroad rail ..but, to date.. have not been able to locate such.

I believe .. a stiddy is not an item that is commercially or readily available. I may well be wrong. I believe .. in contrast .. it is an item constructed by the craftsmen themselves. Hence .. my desire for a 6~8" section of RR rail. From which .. I could construct a purpose specific small anvil .. a stiddy.

NOTE: I did find an on-line source for surplus sections of RR rails ..but.. @ that price .. I'll buy a small (15 lbs) anvil. I've found a few small sections on Ebay & Etsy ..but.. would you believe - the shipping cost is prohibitive :)

I have Trevor's style knives that you may require and they come from the person who  supplied goods and parts to Trevor. I have carried on having one of his more distinctive productions made. Sheffield was always about piece workers like hardeners, polishers, leather workers,  knife grinders and engravers and those people are still around but in diminished quantities. One independent knife grinder is left and that will be a bit of problem when he goes. sheffield-gb.com has them. I have sold about thirty of one his patterns and have about ten left and then the question is what to make next.

I do understand that Jantz sells a modern version of a stiddy of about 15.00 but I have never seen one of them
