Al-This is called an Al Mar SERE knife--Developed in 1985 and was the first knife adopted by the Special Forces for SERE use by them.U.S. Army’s SERE (Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape) training program.  In 1985, the collaboration between Col. Rowe and former Special Forces soldier and knife maker Al Mar produced the SERE folding knife.Yours with the nail nick to open is an early version, as they later converted to a thumb stud for opening. I would need a picture or exact description of any tang stamps to help you further, but in the roughly $150-$350 price range. A beautiful knife with a great history, and very collectible.

John, Thanks so much for this info. It clears up a lot of questions I had about these knives.  I will try to get some clearer photos to share, my camera's not the best.  Thanks again.  Al

I thought I had purchased these 2 knives in 1983-84. It may have been 1985. I have found a lot of information concerning the larger knife, but can find nothing on the smaller one. I was told the smaller knife was a production prototype for the SERE series. It's numbered PP 47/200. These have been my EDC for 35 years. If anyone has any info on the numbered prototype I'd appreciate it.
