Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

There has been discussion in our blog- http://www.iknifecollector.com/profiles/blogs/the-future-of-organiz... about what the future of "organized" knife collecting looks like and I want to ask a few more questions.

Exactly what would you want from an association for you to join?

If a "new" association formed tomorrow- what would it take for you to become a dues paying member? And how much would you be willing to pay yearly in dues for those member benefits? (don't worry, I'm not planning on starting a new organization, I'm just curious)

What focus or emphasis would you want that organization to have?

1.) Establish a Membership knife Gallery.   2.) For those that are starting out in making knives - start a Knife QA (Quesations and answers) Forum. 3.) Is it possible for the more experienced bladesmiths to evaluate other member's works.

I would pay at least $30.00 per year for such info.

These are only some of the ideas that come to mind.

Information.

If a "new" association formed tomorrow- what would it take for you to become a dues paying member?

Information access .. in the form of :

  • online help  … not real time .. more along the lines of posting a query & expecting / obtaining a reliable response …. & not a pricing service either !!!

  • organized database  … accessible to membership only .. searchable .. useful.

  • *.pdf files  … organized data published for personal archiving/use

And how much would you be willing to pay yearly in dues for those member benefits?

That depends on the quality / organization / accessibility / quantity  of the information.

REALLY .. if the info is no better than what I already have stored inside my head …. $0.00.

If there is more information to be had than I could obtain by purchasing Bernie’s 4th Ed  ..  then I’d be willing to pay the going price for Bernie’s 4th edition.

What focus or emphasis would you want that organization to have?

An  ECLECTIC  one. Any other focus/emphasis becomes exclusive. Immediately limiting the audience to which it CAN* appeal.

*CAN .. “is capable of” .. “has the capacity to”

 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

‘n all the friendships I’ve formed through iKC   …   they’re just an added bonus !!!!!!!

Good luck to that "new organization" .. trying to duplicate the camaraderie I feel here !!!!!!!

Thanks Dale.
...just getting feedback and agree with ya on the comraderie here would be hard to duplicate :)

“IT”  .. .. .. ..  would have to duplicate the camaraderie I experience here.

Ca·ma·ra·der·ie – n. goodwill and lighthearted rapport between or among friends.;  the quality of affording easy familiarity and sociability.;  close feelings of friendship and trust among individuals or a group.

– Synonyms: friendship, companionship, brotherliness, fellowship

– Antonyms: hostility, antagonism

And then

through it’s membership

“n the camaraderie associated thereof

provide the information I spoke of earlier !!!

Level of dues .. $25~45  … for maintaining an environment that both fosters &  encourages the open exchange of ideas.

Eclectic focus .. excludes none .. invites/welcomes/retains the widest knowledge base 'n benevolent membership

I want to thank all you guys who have freely offered suggestions and ideas here. If you come up with others please add them. Thank you!
