Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I need to run this by you guys.  I'm considering a pocket knife on ebay.  My problem is that I noticed  in the pic that no tang stamp is visible, and the knife's maker isn't listed.  So I asked the seller, who made the knife and what the tang stamp read.. (thinking it must be on the opposite side than the one shown).

His response is that the knife was made by Schrade....and there's no tang stamp.

So........I'm asking you  if Schrade  makes or ever made knives with no tang stamp.   I know some are made in the U.S.  and others are imported.  But I don't know of any made without tang stamps.

Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge!!

Chris .. I don't know this for a fact .. but think about it .. WHY would shrade or anybody do that .. were they ashamed of it .. not schrade/case/buck/western/etc that I'm aware of .. I would certainly question !!!

..just an opinion..

Chris .. take a look here .. also, Trent posted a bit on Schrade tang stamps here .
Chris, just thought about it and here's a link that might help too: http://www.collectors-of-schrades-r.us/

Thanks guys.  I'm gonna pass on this one. The knife in question is a "Purina" knife.

I collect feed&seed pocket knifes and the Purina ones are my favorite and the ones I know the most history on.  They have been made by about 6 different companies in a variety of patterns.  Schrade has made a Purina knife, but the only ones I've seen, didn't have the red and white checkerboard handles. Instead, "Purina" was etched on the large blade...and it had a tang stamp.

Although I'm fairly confident in my knowledge of  these knifes, I knew very little about all Schrade tang stamps. And now I can say that with the resources you shared with me, I know quite a bit. Heck, I can even tell the time period a Schrade was made by the tangs now.

I needed confirmation and got it from you guys. For that, I thank you each. If I could, I would have you all over for a beer and some Cheetos....(maybe one day!!).

Oh yeah, another red flag was waved when I noticed this guy has sold over 50 of these (new and mint) knives since 2007....ranging from $13 to $35.  Not a bad gig, huh?

Have you read this ???

Fifty units in new/mint .. over last ~4 yrs .. no shortage anyway !!!

If you collect Schrades

I'm not going to contradict Trent, the Schrade Knives Collectors Forum over on BF is THE place to go. There are a few ex-Schrade employees posting over there which is an amazing, invaluable asset.

But, here on iKC we've recently (May 2011) set up the group Schrade Et Al. and I just wanted update this thread so iKC members would be aware there's a place to talk Schrade without leaving home.
