i think for me i would bring for camping in the woods is a fixed blade and also a hatchet you can do alot with a fixed blade from cutting rope small wood and skinin but for the bigger jobs i will bring a hatchet or a machate .not that a nice big fixed blade could not do the job it could. i like to conserve energy and the way you do that is make it easier on youself. so for me i will bring at least 2 tools.and yes i call my blades tools because they work...thanks stephen....
this is one of my good skin'in knifes it does really good for that job...

This is my deer and wild hog skinner. It's with me most of deer season. I'll post more pictures later on this discussion.

I start by bringing a gun! The small knife 4-5inches and a large knife 10in +.
I would realistically have a fixed blade about 4.5 - 7in blade on my side and my Swiss Army knife in left pocket. My pack will have two emergency blankets and an empty water bottle with screw on lid.If I am in deep woods, there may be a chance to collect water. A Bic lighter is also always with me.That is pretty self explanatoryI always have paracord wrapped around something like a knife or axe handle which is always handy.I'm torn between my CS Kukri machete,or my Branton/Brend Fightin Hatchet as a large blade choice.Cool topic Steve.
Becker BK9, Camillus USMC knife and my KR Johnson Tomahawk.
Jake you had me laughing on that one. Ain't it the truth I wish I would have had the gun!

Thanks Jeremi! It helps to talk these things through. Machete in the woods for trail clearing, shelter set up. Great to have with if you think to bring it.
