The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
Hundreds of thousands of knives being produced every year, both factory produced and custom made. In fact the number just might be staggering, if we knew it exactly.
So the questions is this: Is there a home for every single knife made, every year?

JJ There is probably always someone who is getting started and doesn't know better. I know where you can get some Frost knives real cheap. I still have some left from 4 years ago that are in a box somewhere. I gave away some of their knives and some of those dollar tacticals didn't make it thru the day. You really have to watch what you buy there.
@ Steve .. I believe there’s actually some thought processes occurring before production runs. Given the deplorable results we’ve all seen marketed, it is hard to believe, but I’m convinced there is some thought expended prior to obtaining raw materials .. or the money for the raw materials .. or ……
JJ’s already mentioned the unmentionable. FROST CUTLERY. Absolute pieces of sht !!! I own at least a couple a dozen of ‘em !!! That fake mini copperlock makes a nice prototyping platform before I modify a real CASE copperlock. The lockback whittler he (Jim Frost) markets is a fav of mine for gifts to the nephews .. I prefer the safety of the locking blade. One of the problems with them is I have to order (on average) 3 of them to insure I get 1 that doesn’t have some issue .. faulty lock/lazy blade/funky scale/etc. THEN.. the freebie that he throws in with the mail order. Talk about a cheap POS .. birdseye rivets .. low low quality components throughout .. it was SOOOO BAD it was dangerous.
But, FROST CUTLERY is a profitable business.
BECAUSE .. thought processes are expended first .. plans are made .. AND .. the SHT sells !!!
Yuppers Stephan .. I too have some of the worst examples of ??cutlery?? that one could imagine. And like Billy points out .. even those POS found a home.
Yes, there’s a home for every one ‘em .. I’d take em if there cheap enough. And as long as they continue to sell .. somebody, right @ this moment, is ordering the raw materials required to make yet another production run of em !!!
I don't think there are buyers for everything.
A while back on another forum I saw a maker that had produced a couple of knives.
- he used interesting techniques
- he used some very cool materials (and high quality materials)
but he never sold those two knives. Simply because they were ugly as sin....I believe they're still on sale at the moment and I spotted them over a year back.
