Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I've seen over the years various charts ranking "the most popular brands" for certain time periods, but recognized these ranking are actually very subjective to each collector's own preferences.

So, let me ask you- what are your favorite knife brands?

I have to say after finally getting my hands on a Cattaraugus 225Q knife and feeling the weight, seeing the work in the design I have to say, it is one outstanding fixed blade and brand. To think they produced so many of these knives during the war, switching over most production, it really is an incredible story and undertaking by a company. There are more that did similar things but right now I am steeped in the history of this.

i love em all!...lol....

Peter in all honesty I had no idea you enjoyed vintage American knives. Do you collect them, read about them?

most of my collection is vintage.

i collect as many of the vintage catalogs ,ads, books etc etc. i also am currently writing an essay about a tobacco company that produced many knife give aways and am constantly in search of another PA tang stamp i dont have yet. PA VINTAGE KNIVES ARE MY FAV!

i also just constantly collect all kinds of paper that i cant buy but at least store the image to my PC. some paper "ephemera" ..i think i spelled that right....anyway collecting paper materials is way harder then keeping knives cleaned and stored... im at 2 filing cabinets{my wife has em}.... as i get things i will start to post more and more....you saw that latch knife... the winterbottom on that..came directly from the WINTERBOTTOM BONE CO!..coa for the material and all!

but yes i love vintage.  i have about 40 hawkbills, probably just as many tl-29s!.....lol...ill never use either...why do i love em...i couldnt tell ya...  but i do... and tl-29s...you take out the screwdriver blade make an awesome jack knife!  i collect all that is sharp though...dont be fooled...im an addict!...lol!

if you collect vintage knives... you need to collect vintage knife books... and catalogs and ads! IMO...

Peter Force,

This is one of our "paper items"  I like this stuff too

That is a great picture Jan.  You know if you think about it that makes that knife so much more valuable. I mean you know all there is to know about it.  Really amazing.

I really have almost no ad memorabilia or ctalogs or anything. i do have some knife books and get almost all knife mags for current stuff. But I love the historical aspect quite a bit. Peter can't wait to see what else you may have.

Recently I am pursuing Shapleigh Hdwe, EC Simmons, John Primble/Belnap Hdwe, Robeson and Cammilus  knives.

Have taken delivery of 2 Shapleighs, 1 Belnap and 1 Robeson this morning, I got what I paid for. Pics to follow.

I'd have to say that anything associated with Case and the Brown Family tree gets me excited. I especially like the Union Razor tang stamps. North American Shield with the word union inside it. Any old Union Razor knives, razors, strops, hones, boxes or paper materials I'm your guy! I have a large Dog Head folding hunter with the Union inside the North American shield which is one of my favorites it even has a expertly repaired front handle. Some are turned off with it but all I see is a piece of art. The repair blends into the actual bone I would not even think about replacing the handle.

My favorite old knives? I'd have to say Schrade, Cattaraugus, New York Knife Co., Robeson, Union Cut Co.,  C. Platts &Sonsand of course there's nothing like an old Remington. Hmmm, I don't know. I guess I like most ALL old knives!

Case Tested and XX era, S&M vintage

I am now in hot pursuit of Schrade USA OT's.
