The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
A dicsussion group about knives of the Great Outdoors needs to have an area to discuss all those fixed blades. This will be a place to show off your fixed blades. Doesn't matter if it for filet fish or just the knife you use around the camp fire. Maybe its your favorite deer skinner! Let's see it!
For years, the knife i took camping was my Camillus Mk2 Fighting knife. But it is now in retirement. Not because I found something better, just because it has too much sentimental meaning to have it confiscated by a park ranger or game warden or lost through stupidity.
My current camp knife is a Rough Rider 844 Burl Wood Hunter. Why? Because it has been getting the job done. I've got Hunters by Bear & Son, Case and Buck that all cost more but this one seems to get the job done better and cost half as much as the others.
The only issue I had with the knife was the strap for the sheath. It got in the way of taking the knife in and out of the sheath . A little altering and all was fine.

Howard, I have an AF Survival knife just like that. That Catt sure is neat, wish I had one of those.
Thanks, Ken. I have the original sheath, which is in rough shape, and I even bought a brand new replica sheath, and as you know, the original sheath was left handed - perfect for me. But, I got to liking swivel sheaths so I had the local leather guy build a swivel sheath for the Cat.

Nice bunch of knives there Tobias, I can see why they are among your favorite things.
The funny thing is I set out many years ago collecting Military fixed blades. That is probably the least collected of my knives! The actual ones that were made under a government contract are expensive and hard to find. There are plenty of PX issued, civilian copies, and authentic replicas but to find ones that were actually issued and in good shape-- that's a different ball of wax!.
The Rough Rider is the knife I normally take to the woods with me. I might be switching over to the Turtle Man.
Nice set of fixed blades, Tobias.
Thanks Howard!
Well Tobias, my feeling is that, up to a point, too long is better than too short. A cavalry sword would be too long to filet a pan fish. 7" might be too short for a Muskie, but I wouldn't consider such a fish a "pan fish".
"Tackle box queen", LOL.
