Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Over the years of collecting and hanging around with collectors and sellers, I have heard some doozy explanations to the "other half" as to why we bought that new knife.  I am ready for a few laughs, how about you?

So here is the deal for this month

The prize includes something for everyone.

Tell me your BEST WHOPPER!  Honey I bought this new knife because.......

Darn John, you made a six pack of knives possible and fixed the remote LOL

I am trying to get Cindy a Hoveround power chair so she has more mobility.  We are having to deal with Medicare to pay for it.  Since Medicare is the government and there is always a lot of red tape involved, I told her I needed to order a red tape knife so I could cut through it!

LOL, see creative ideas are out there!

Aw, thanks, Jan!  Occasionally I'm good for something...  :)

DLKG, ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!

all the years I have been hearing reasonings for buying another knife, something like this never came up.  I laughed so hard I cried!

I would NEVER lie to my wife. If she sees a knife that she has never seen before and questions me about it I tell her the truth “oh no that's not new I've had it for ages.”

LOL!!  Good one there.  who ever know what "ages" means LOL

How about this?

Honey, Cupid's arrow has struck me in my heart.  I need to order a Doctor's knife to cut it out!

Contest ends next friday!  Get your entries in

"Babydoll, that knife is specifically for this (task or another) and will replace the need for (some tool or another), therefore downsizing my need for space in the garage to make room for more of your Craft supplies. So basically you need me to have this knife and I am willing to make that sacrifice for you."

It worked once.

Oh probably my best whopper was when i had to explain to my wife why a box with a knife in it showed up on our doorstep. Well thinking quickly I told her that I had to by one for our oldest son to make it even because I had given our younger son a case knife a few months earlier. This kind of made her tirade a bit smaller. Though let me tell you that very knife is in my collection at this very moment. Though the guilt of it all still haunts me to this day. I will eventually give my oldest son a knife. Just not the one that came in the mail that day. Also just a bit of luck played into the situation. Inside that box that came was a set of four matching wild life knifes. I guess I must have won the companies drawing that the have every ten minutes. Where they give away a knife/knifes as a sales gimmick to get you to buy from them. So I then said look honey they sent me four free knifes doesn't that make it just super and cool. By the look on her face that did not make it any better for me. Oh well. To this day she despises my knife collecting habit. In fact I just ordered a knife off television last night. They had a shipping special of 5.99$ for 50 dollars and less. So I bought a 24.00 Michael Prater knife. That's right 24.00. Later, Don Rose.

To give a more serious answer to this question, this is what I told my partner. I was honest, I said, look, I'm homebound, I don't go to clubs or bars or the movies, I don't even get to go out to go shopping, I sit around the house 24/7, I sleep, eat, watch stuff on the internet and occasionally TV and I need distractions in my life and for me, it's collecting things. I've given up a lot of my collections to cut down on expenses. I used to subscribe to several monthly box clubs, I collected swords and daggers, I collected dragon sculptures, blue willow china, video games, dvds, electronics, etc etc etc... Currently I'm interested in collecting knives. You can't deny me the ability to have SOMETHING in my life that gives me joy. Most people in my position would be downright suicidal. I struggle every day to maintain my sanity. I live with chronic pain. If I DO go out of the house it's to the hospital, whether it's for a heart attack or to have a body part amputated, that's all I ever get out of the house for. Begrudging me my hobbies would be cruel if you ask me. I wish I could afford nicer knives but I'm on a severely fixed income. I can't really even afford to buy the knives that I do buy, but I need something. What can I do? I need to keep sane.

Feel free to donate your knives to the "Keep Mike Sane Fund" PM me for the address, send me any knives you think might make my life bearable. :) And remember, an Umnumzaan entitles you to a special e-hug! :)

Some great comments coming in on how we get our other half to understand the importance of that next new knife!  Keep them coming, The contest ends at midnight est 2/13/15
