wow, a knife genius and a computer graphic expert, you rock,

thanks for the great directions and pictures

hey there is no rush, slow and steady wins the race, in your own time, I really appreciate all the time and effort.

Thanks for the kind words , Greg !!!

.

Hardly a "Knife Genius" .. but, thank you !!!  Cutlery is a passion for me ..combined with.. a 27 yr career in Engineering (EE).. kind of give me a leg up on .. many.
.
I publicly posted this "acknowledgement of agreement & receipt of package" to provide a "comfort factor" .. should life toss me a twist & the project gets pushed beyond the intended 2 week turn around time I'm shooting for.

.

Now that I have the parts in hand .. I'm confident both the desired modification & assembly can be affected.

All good ..&.. thanks again.

.

Enjoy

Progress has been made ,  greg

Last week-end was a bust .. for cutlery projects. I accomplished quite a bit  ..but..  totally unrelated. My wife & I purchased & set up a computer for her eldest brother. Cleansed of bloatware .. security installed .. short cuts to on-line accounts generated .. personalized instruction .. etc. He's on fb already .. total success !!!

This week-end .. I made it to the shop  ..&..  identified the desired cam profile.

Above, I've simply identified the areas for discussion.

The top half of the blade is "as received".

The bottom side of the blade has been re-profiled. I've reassembled that half of the knife & tested its function.

!! . All good . !!

As can be observed .. I ground & polished a different profile to the cam. The rate of lift has been reduced .. at what I will identify as the "initial" portion of the cam .. assuming the knife is closed to start.

There still exists enough spring force to retain the blade in the closed position ..however.. far less effort is now required to open the knife.

It was also required to remove some of the blade's kick .. to facilitate full closure. Enough remains to prevent the blade from contacting the backspring .. which is the purpose of the kick. Since the spring itself is quite hard .. it will dull the cutting edge of the blade .. should the two make contact.

The changes should be slightly more evident in the close-up above.

One nice aspect of this project is that the knife is a mirror image of itself. If one draws an imaginary line down the center of the blade & frame .. both form & function are mirror images of one another. I am able to identify .. implement .. test the changes using only 1/2 of the knife.

Then .. once completed .. the required changes are simply transferred to the other side .. greatly simplifying the overall project.

I'm making progress .. slow & sure.

Dale,

Yhis is turning into quite the learning project, both for you and us!  Looking good!

wow, i can see where this is going to make a huge difference in the dynamics of the knife, great job

Well, Greg .. life tossed me one of those "twists".

I lost an employee @ wk. As such .. I clocked 58.75 hrs last pay period ..  today is my first day off in 14 days.

Never fear .. your knife is "in the works" .. just .. taking longer than expected.

Will get it finished as soon as realistically possible .. not really that much left to do .. it just boils down to the time thing.

Sincerely,

Dale

never a problem, no hurry, priorities matter, your's first,

Alright .. I just finished the Cold Steel .. Paradox modification.

It can now be opened as a balisong or butterfly knife.

There's the polishing of the resultant cam surfaces & their mating area of the backsprings ..and.. re-assembly.

But .. the modification is complete.

I'll post some pics in a bit .. need to run for something else at the moment.

Should be able to get it in the mail this week, Greg.

Dale

wow, I am very excited to see this one and it is not even mine LOL!

Well like Jan said, Wow, you've flipped my switch, I'm excited to see it.
