Here is a set of the Schrade I*XL Wostenholm Scrimshaws in white bone.

please correct me if im wrong but i read some where that if there was a + symbol example (Schrade+ or SCC+)after the tang stamp the schrade was actuall made buy camillus not saying that its true just what i read somewhere cant remember where i read it thanks

The + following Schrade on a tang stamp indicates the blade is stainless, that is not to say that all Schrade stamps without the + are not stainless.

thank you doug for clarifying the + symbol what would you say my set is worth

Sets, or groups of knives, almost always bring less than when parted out. Most buyers are looking for one or two knives to complete a set they have in progress, therefore parting out a set brings more. Knife prices, or at least Schrades are down, and seem to be going lower. I looked at recently completed sales on Ebay to come up with this estimate.
sc506...$20ea
sc505...$20 ea
sc503...$20
sc500.. $50 ea
sc508...$40
sc501...$40
So if you sold them individually you might get around $280 before Ebay and Paypal fees...maybe $230 after.....There are a lot of those that haven't got a bid when starting at $10 though....like I said, I went by the last ones NIB that did sell.

Good looking IXL's Doug.  Were those re-handled or did I miss the boat on some real scrim shaw bone handled IXL's.........

LOL

Tom,

I guess you missed the boat on this one. They haven't been re-handled. There are 2 sets that come boxed like mine. The other 2 knives are lockbacks.  Here is the Ebay item # 201405027253 for the two sets..way over priced. You can find the 4 knives in various configurations,..framed..boxed etc. Wostenholm put out some other knives with scrimshaw that have caught my attention...pre Schrade I believe. Beware though...Parker bought the rights to the Wostenholm name for a few years and those knives are made in China...I believe that if it has the I*XL  and Sheffield on the tang stamp it's probably legit. I recently found out that when Schrade was associated with Wostenholm, the parts were made in England and then shipped to the Schrade Factory for assembly.

Great info!!

Ben, I might be interested in a couple of those knives,..If you accept my friend request I can send you a private Email.

Here's one I've had for about 20 years, I found it while cleaning up the other day.
