I do notice the diff...a little bit

Does having a higher Mega Pixel camera=less need for sharpening?
Does a 2 MP camera require more "sharpening" than a 14 MP camera??

I really don't know, I've only had one digital camera ( it's a 7 MP ) and I keep it set for small pictures suitable for email. The sharpening is easier to see if you use the "undo" feature, sharpen and undo several times.

I take pictures of knive outside in the summer time. It does not have to be cloudy. You just have to take the pictures in the schade on a sunny day. There is plenty of light and no glare. I also use a home made whitebox for winter pictures or for most of the knives I sell. The number one rule is to never use the flash. The lights in the white box are the clamp on type. You clamp them to the outside front edge of the box and point them upward so the light on the knife is reflected off off the top and sides of the box. I use a reletively cheap digital camera on program mode not auto mode. In this mode you have to adjust the white balance up to compensate for the flash being turned off. If you don't do this the pics come out yellow. I usually take several pictures and adjust the white balance a couple times and then pick the best pictures from the set. The other thing to do is use macro mode for closeups and a cheap small tripod.

Yuppers .. what w/ the price of flash memory .. an inexpensive 2GB card provides me 300+ pics @ hi res .. and if I don't manage something I like in 300+ shots .. well, reformat the card and have another go .. 'tis one of the best ways I know to learn !!!!

 

... with time .. ya just seem to get more keepers !!!!

It took me 2 day and over 500 tries to get this one just right. Set up tripod and just wait and snap these little boogers are swift.

Lots of good advice here. I am finding out that using my cheap $23.oo light box outside without lights or in a window with the light shining through helps a lot. I can't seem to find the right combo using lights inside. I have tried 2 and 3 point lighting and always seem to have a glare or a yellow appearance. I also am trying to get used to using a dslr instead of a point and shoot. I guess that it is one of those trial and error and lots of deletes to learn. It also helps to listen to people that share good ideas and try them. I am getting better. This one came out fair without any kind of touchup on editing software. It seems like I make pictures worse when I try to edit them and adjust them.

I need help with my photo technique. I posted some photos in the Boker Group and know I can do better.

I will keep watching for new tips from you folks.

I take Larry's pictures in morning light before the sun gets high.  I have a display box in a window with white plastic where the glass used to be to  difuse light  and use a window shade to control how much light I get. I use an old Minolta Dimage A1 which is absolutely an awesome camera that I would not part with for anything.  I do not know how to take pics...I wing it.  Had one published in Blade magazine a few years ago so I guess I'm not doing too bad!LOL
