How about some thoughts, feelings, and pictures of the #33 Conductor?

I'm getting an itching feeling for one.

Oh yeah, I've been looking at them too! I have my eye on a  White Owl in stag and Autumn Gold Bone, and a #62 Half Congress in Cranberry Acrylic. I also want a #53 "Cattle Knife", #66 Stockman, and I've been looking at the  Missouri Trapper, and even their fixed blades!! Sheesh!  BUT, it's going to be a bit slow going since I'm on an allowance every month....otherwise I'd be buying knives instead of paying the mortgage and the car payment.

Craig,

GEC keeps rolling out new patterns every month or two and it IS hard to keep up with them all. Have you considered the #68 White Owls and the #62 Easy Pocket Courthouse Whittlers - if you like a relatively small knife? I really like both of these.

I can speak for the Missouri Trader, it's one fine knife. Knife buying in a responsible manner is the right way to go, don't try keep up with anyone else's knives. Part of the fun is shopping around and looking at all the possibilities. Buy, responsible, and you'll enjoy the hobby alot more. Sorry if I sound like a I'm preaching.

I agree with you 100% Robert!  I learned that, and have been preaching that too, for most of my life, no matter what the hobby! I always say, only buy what YOU like, and can afford.

Preach on, Robert.

My knife budget is pretty much fixed for this year, especially that the club knife is a Gippetto.  Can't really shop around for one of them, now can we.  1 of (?) and available only here.

Scrimping and saving...

Robert,

LOL, I sure wish that you had shared that tidbit of knowledge with me about 3 years ago! I had to learn that one the hard way, and several times over!

Okay, my first one in is the #33 Conductor in burnt bienna jigged bone.

I've got to admit it is one great knife. Perfect? No, but a great knife. It definitely has taht old time feel.

The blades on mine are as tight as a drum, which is what I want! That sacrifices some snap which might gripe some, but I'd rather not have blade play.....I HATE it.

The burnt bienna jigged bone looks kinda like old peach seed bone! I like it and I hope they do more in it.

The not perfect; the shield sticks up just a small bit on one end, but no biggie. The were a couple of rough places in the jigging, as though it wants to chip. I've seen the same thing in other jigged bone handles....I could smooth it down if I want but again no biggie. A small scratch on the back side of the main blade from rubbing on the pen tang while opening. Again common for knives with blades that pass each other and flexing a bit while opening.

Overall feeling? My first GEC I'd rate 9 out of 10.  Great looking, old timey feeling knife!

Will I get more.................YES! I'm looking forward to my stag Conductor and my Cocobolo Sleeveboard!

Further thoughts and feelings;

I really liked it when I first looked at it and handled it. But, the more I look at it and handle it the MORE I like it! I can see how people get hooked on the GEC knives.

My BIG problem with it is.....I originally got his to use. Now I feel like I should put it up and not use it. But, I like it so much, and it fits perfect in my coin pocket on my jeans......shoot, what to do.....maybe I'll decide what to do after I get my others.

More thoughts;

Don't get me wrong about my "The not perfect" part above. I was being REALLY, REALLY picky. The great majority   of people would have never noticed the tiny stuff.  This is out and out a beautiful little knife! As someone once said; "If you want a perfect knife, go buy a custom knife!"

This is one of those knives that only come along every once in a while. I find myself making a special trip to the other end of the house just to pick it up and play with it!

Craig,

I cannot tell you how pleased I am that you have joined the GEC family!  Your reaction is exactly what ours was when the first one came to our house.  Congrats on a beautiful knife, I think you will be equally impressed as you use one!  Cant wait to hear about the other two :)

Craig,

That is a pretty handsome knife Sir! Enjoy it, whether it is a user or a collector!

Thanks Tom! Tough choices. You were also right about the Sleeveboard....it is one cool little knife!  I hope to have pictures of it and the stag Conductor in the next few days.

Okay, here's my new Stag Conductor! I love it! Pretty near perfect!
