Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I think we need to get a jump on this, so those people who have to plan ahead to purchase one can do so.

Let us discuss and then lockdown a pattern/design, get it priced out and ordered. Buying a knife around the winter holidays is difficult for everyone.

My vote is for a jack/mtnman/barlow-esque pattern Large (or Medium)

Stag/Bone/Burl wood

One/two blades

I would prefer Carbon blades, but an exotic SS is fine.

I am reluctant to comment further on this topic than I already have because I agree, or see the point, of most all of the posts here.  So, I'll just add "demographic" information as others have; not to argue for or against a particular knife or style, but to add information about who is out here.

I sit on both (or more, if there are any more) sides of knife collecting/use.  I collect folders, but no longer use folders much.  I have used/use one of every pattern/manufacturer of folder I have. I use all the fixed-blades I have in my attempt to find "THE" knife.  I guess I have a "collection" of fixed-blades, but they are no longer collectible.  Super steel fixed blades are so expensive I can't justify display case collecting.  That is, I am not in a position to buy at least two of every high-dollar fixed blade that comes along.  Sitting in a display case doesn't tell me if a knife is any good.  I lose collector value, but get utility information.  I can't really afford a Randall Model 19 Bushmaster at $600.+.  Being made of 440A stainless, the Randall loses a lot of appeal from a structural point of view.  I could buy two $300.+ "super steel" knives and use one.  Anyway, I'm not trying to cast aspersions on anyone's collecting style - just adding what I do.

So, when it comes to an ikc club knife, probably a folder for broader appeal, if it is "interesting", and have collector value so that my children can sell it for a profit down the road to one of you, I would buy it for it's "art" appeal and not use it.  Of course, if the price fit my budget I could buy two and use one. Hahahahaha.

I collect club knives also and have never thought about useing one. They are in my collction to stay. One point I was trying to make is, if a member decides to use the club knife, that it be up to the task. A great pattern and steel, that can "Getter Done" Ha. Ha. If this clears up what I'm saying.LOL The more we discuss this in an adult manner, the better the ideas will be to make a great club knife. I hope no one has taken offense at my opinions, I just want to enjoy this discussion and get to know great people. Bless Ya'll

For what it's worth, I'll add another agreement here--and toss in the wooden box to semi-match the handle--as a really classy display that should not add too much to the cost of the knife.  A display knife that I just might carry to a meeting not to use, but just to make conversation(read:show it off).  Good discussion. Thanks

Carl, you are absolutely welcome to voice your opinion. In part I agree with you, I want a special knife, pocket jewelry some call it. I want something beautiful to sit next to my safe queens but have the "iKC" etch on it.

Talk of a Neck knife and tactical folders, got me down over the weekend as I thought about it. That wouldn't make it special in my accumulation of knives.

In my opinion a traditional pattern with stag or bone best describes the mature attitude of this site and it's members. Any knife with a blade less than 3" should be a folder and it should have a secondary blade with it. 2-3 finger fixed blades are okay, but not for a Forum knife.

But this is just one opinion. We have many to listen to and consider. So we trudge on until Miss Jan says "stop, time form a final vote committee" or something of the sort. The end result will be another knife in my collection.

I would say that the only thing everyone here will agree on is that no matter what knife is chosen, there is no way to make everyone happy.  The group here is too diverse, which is good, but bad as far as finding 1 knife that everyone loves.

I'm rather new here, and don't know how the majority feel, but I'll speak my opinion.  I'm a knife collector, and therefore I like a knife that is unique, artistic, but sticks to more traditional style, and manufacturers.  I have always considered "Club Knives" as a collectible piece.  You can get EDC's at the hardware store for a dime a dozen.  Usable knives are just that, used, abused, worn down, sharpened, and eventually thrown out when their life is over.  I feel that a club knife is a badge of your membership, something that holds a little more meaning than an EDC, and therefore you are not going to deteriorate it to less than mint status.

I would prefer to get an awesome beautiful design/handles from a historic knife company to represent the club, and I'll use my old trusty rusty for scraping paint, prying staples, cutting boxes, and cleaning fingernails.  No offense meant to anyone elses opinions, as I said this is a diverse group, and I am most likely in the minority.

I doubt that any of us want to be represented by something that shrieks "chintzy."  The steel should have some interest, But I, for one, would not be demonstrating bolt cutting followed by tomato slicing.  And, another thought, someone said that we want our club well represented by the knife we choose to put our crest on.  More people will be attracted to become a club member themselves if friends are first attracted to a classy or attractive knife--I like Carl's "unique...but sticks to tradition"-- paraphrased.  Well said.

I think that if you want to attract new blood.....you might have to go with something "less traditional".

We've a LOT of people on the site that love the traditional style. Not soo much with the tactical styled knives I think.

i have posted what i thought a few times now and reading posts that follow most seem feel the same.

and when it comes to $$$ and club knives. sure  everyone has a budget. but none of my club knives have really grown in value except sentimental.{lets face it the best growth a knife can have} ...long story short...their is a small amount of dedication with club knives.like now with IKC i will have 2 clubs i buy knives with every year.

i have said it already before ill say it again ... A CLUB KNIFE REPRESENTS ITS MEMBERS. i wanna roll into a knife show or a club meet and bust out my new IKC WHATEVER and put the others holdings to shame!!!...LOLOL..

none of my club knives are ever used...never made EDC's...

IF YOU REMEMBER FIGHTN ROOSTER CLUB KNIVES!!!...them were some club knives baby!...whether you liked roosters or not...but i buy them today and all those clubs are gone{most}

either way the time is now!... lets do this

PS-i just received shipped and all. MUSKRAT KNIFE,club shield{inlayed},ELK SCALES{beautifuly matched,NS HARDWARE,long bolsters,4 inches closed, single spring.comes in pcoket pouch, wih coa and beautiful box with the clubs own label on it. if you want i will post he link ... 81$shipped!...great safe gem! just came today!!!

After reading everyones wishes I think we should keep a few things in mind.

First not all countries allow its citizens to own folding knives that lock.  This

includes linerlocks and lockbacks.

Second is that even in the U.S. not everyone agrees that an assisted opening

knife is not a switch blade.  I know this because several people I work with have

had a Kershaw confiscated by the Park Rangers at the Arch in St. Louis.  I talked

to Kershaw about this and they said it was an ongoing problem with the Federal Parks.

Third is the length of the knife, in most areas to be legal for carry the knife must be less

than 4 inches in length closed.

So if we take these three things into consideration we should choose a knife that is a

slip joint less than 4 inches closed.  This gives us the option of numerous patterns, blade steels,

and handle materials.

This is just my thoughts but we should try for a knife that we can all own.

Perhaps this may enlighten you as to the mighty cleansing properties of Simple Green;

The product in which I suggested you bathe your evil fingertips in.

"Back to scraping and prying isnt that what SAKs are for? That should put a price on my head."

Indeed! More blasphemous words have never been written! I cringed when I read this! Wash your mind out with soap and soak those evil fingertips in Simple Green! My SAK's are considered sacred and would never be subjected to the harsh conditions to which you have ascribed. I am shocked and appalled by this inference! (He said, with tongue firmly planted in cheek.) lol

Carry on Cooper.

Just my 2 cents,,, how about a eureka jack?  I think GEC is going to do a special run  of  JPF Chamblin. I dont know, I am too green here,,,  lol

GUYS CAN I GET YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE?

WHAT IF I COULD OFFER YOU A CUSTOM KNIFE?

We have a member that is a knifemaker Mr. J Mutz.  He and I are talking about what we could do for the knife this year.

He is thinking we could do this knife in 154CPM, with a 1/2 stop.  It is 3 5/8 closed and the it is a Red Bone. It would be this knife with an iKC blade etch.  There would not be a shield this year.  Because this would be custom we could not order any more than 50 knives and his commitment is that he could deliver in September (maybe sooner but that a lot to get made in a short time)

Jeff mills his knives so the bolsters are integral to the body of the knife not pinned in place.  He believes I could put this knife in your hands for a rough estimate of $110.00.  So I need to hear what you think before I ask him to build a proto for us and I would like that done quickly.  PLEASE give me your thoughts

This is, in a word, beautiful, and the price is clearly a special "friends only" deal. I would like one of these. Please.
