Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

So it seems we have become a topic, or the result of one anyway LOL

For those of you that know me, you know I dont go to the other forums.  I belong and I get alerts if our name is mentioned but I choose to be here.

Long story, condensed version.  there was an issue with a club knife for them by Queen.  Someone brought up that Queen does a live chat here and low and behold...we have new members.  Welcome to you all.

What I found interesting was the comments regarding iKC and the membership.

"Ya, I went over there and looked around as soon as you mentioned that. All I can say is it seems like the people who hang out there are... how shall I say this... a little off. Read through that forum and you see no real complaints about anything. I'll go, but I don't expect a warm welcome."

"I joined, was instantly greeted by some online members, and saw the same members in the chat box bidding each other a good night as someone was going to bed. They were friends, mentioning that they'd be praying for something I missed ,and seemed nice to me. Didn't read any of the forum though. I Wonder how many members it has and why Queen would select them for this event, though I understand why they wouldn't select EDCF'

"I didn't mean that they were not nice folks, it just appears to me that they seemed like they went way out of their way to be overly polite to each other. It's like a knitting club, but with knives. I could be wrong, but it seemed like a real honest exchange of ideas may be shocking to them. I got the same feeling I get when I pull into a little town in WV and people peer out from behind the curtains and I suddenly realize... I don't belong."

Over the years we have been called many things, but this is the first for knitting club.  So those joining us from there, again...welcome.  Yes, you will find a tight knit community, you will experience friendship and a family atmosphere.  No, we are not a huge community...for us it is not about the numbers but the people, the atmosphere and the knives.  I promise no one will peep out the curtains at you, well unless your in JJ's diner LOL.

We dont go out of our way to be nice, we make the choice to hang with nice folks

Wait . . . knitting needles are sharp . . . that counts!

You hit the nail on the head Jan.  The nice people are what make this such a good forum.

A little "OFF" ???

"Well bless their heart"...

That's funny.

iKC IS a very friendly place though. I think the chat actually makes that an automatic thing. It's different to get into an argument with someone if you've got the chance to run into them during a live chat.

That said....I sometimes do feel that we're a little overly friendly towards suppliers of knives.

Statements that I've seen along the lines of "we owe it do (insert manufacturers name here) because they right by us" don't really make sense to me and I saw a LOT of those in the past few years.

The problem with getting overly nice with the makers is that you feel you can't critisize on what they make anymore. Which in turn means that they're not improving (because if all you get is positive feedback...you won't improve because you won't see the need to). Which really means we're doing them a disservice.

Well, basically I do appreciate knives that folks post and they do get a like and some get a comment and this is for users and makers both. Here is my rationale:

  1. That individual took the time to post a picture. That means setting the knife up, making it look good, adding description or name or tags to the picture. I appreciate the effort and believe it should not go unnoticed.
  2. Also because we are viewing a picture, it is difficult to ferret out every flaw, or problem, whereas holding a knife makes it much easier. So the picture gets a comment or a like. Its just a picture.
  3. We do have several places that we can be more critical if you will and that is in Our Sharper Review category in Forum. These are reviews done by users and collectors, they are not compensated and are simply conveying their opinion of the knife. I can post there as well as any member.

Hopefully that explains a little about our approach here, to anyone who does not know or is unfamiliar with how things are run on iKnife Collector.  We like knives, its not complicated.

We like knives and knife owners and I guess we can leave the complaints to the other folks .

I belonged to several other groups when I found out about iKC.  I had known Scott from his Cutlery News Journal, so I signed on at an early stage.  For the longest time I maintained my membership with the other groups, but spent most of my time here.

Last year I realized that I had all but stopped visiting the other sites due to the negativity there.

Are we overly polite here?

I still find me "self moderating" myself. I find that I can communicate better without being negative.  If you post overtly negative comments, that's all that folks tend to see.

I like to welcome new members, never know who'll walk through the door next.

Knitting club?  No.    Spent some time working in West Virginia, years ago, felt strange at first but became part of the community while I was there.  Maybe they should stick around a while and actually see what iKC is all about.

For the folks that stop by for a look-see, Welcome to iKC.

Isn't it nice to be noticed

since i live in wv,it might have been me peeping behind the curtain.

LOL, John for you to be peeping out the curtains they would have had to have been standing by your barn

High Alert- She ain't knitting right now !! LOL
