Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

As Christmas approaches, it is time to ponder the  important questions...

Let's say Santa Claus drops by your house just before the whole fly around the world to bring joy and toys good little girls and boys.  He's forgot his pocket knife and was hoping you had one you could lend him.

What knife would you loan him for his trip?

A Great Eastern #25 Barlow with a clip blade.  Good handy knife, feels good in the hand and can take on large and small tasks

A yellow delrin CV Case Stockman!

You know what  if the reindeer aren't moving fast enough, Santa could always show them the spay blade and remind them he has  a schedule to keep!

I think I'd let him borrow my 111mm Victorinox Hunter.  The locking blade might come in handy.

Or maybe I'd just say "Pick one"

You know he's just bound to find one he likes in that group! lol!

Tobias, I love your staff, did you make it yourself? The knife I would lend Santa surely would not be my favorite because I'll be using it. When I lend someone a knife it's dull so I also lend them a stone...lol

Seahorse whittler.

I did indeed make my staff or walking stick.  It is actually made for a Christmas Tree (Christmas, 1981).  I was stationed in Bamberg Germany at the time.  After Christmas was over, it was time to get rid of the tree.  The bark was whittled off using my Camillus Mk2 fighting knife and my Camillus Demo knife (I hadn't traded the demo knife yet)

After whittling all the bark off, I sanded the wood down with differing grits of sand paper and then stained  the wood with a honey pine varnish.   Several coats of clear gloss polyurethane followed the staining.  The Germans do a lot of hiking (volksmarches) and often sell pins for hats and walking sticks.  When I'd go on a volksmarch, I'd try to get a pin for the town where it took place and add it to the stick.  The stick brings back a lot of fond memories.  I still use it when I can. Unfortunately, Its not as easy to get the pins these days.

Tobias, I make alot of staffs and enjoy the hobby.

i thought i would lend him one i made myself with the sea shell bolsters and the acrylic blue and white handles i think he would appercaite something you made yourself...

You know I just made it to make it.  I saw them being sold for  what would've been around $10-15 and thought, Heck, its just a stick, I can make my own.  Obviously mine isn't as polished as a store bought one, but it is one of a kind and its mine.   I've had people ask me to make one for them and I normally reply, " Sure buy me a Christmas tree and I'll get right on it  sometime after  January 6."  They never seem to buy me the tree. LOL.

But staff making and knife collecting seem like a great way to enjoy two hobbies.
