Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

A place like no other in the USA, Alabama Damascus Steel.

To the best of my knowledge no one else produces the volume of hammer forged steel in the US that ADS does.  Chances are high that you own a knife that has used this steel and don't even know it.  Not only do many custom makers use this steel but there are also some manufactures that produce their knives with ADS.

Everyone that worked there was helpful in allowing us to film, answering questions and helping me to understand the process.  Want to see how it's done?

Then there was the other items!  Not only do they make the steel billets but highly sought after guards and custom Damascus knife blade blanks for the custom knife maker or hobbyist.  They can come to you pre-ground or just as a profile you grind yourself.  Need a Hatchet?  ADS has that also.

One of the folks that works at ADS (Virgil) took a moment to give Donnie his first full fledged grinding lesson.  Although there is about an hour of video on this for Donnie, for your enjoyment there is about 5 minutes

Have some fun, if you have questions let me know and I will see if I can get Brad or maybe even Lacy Smith to help us address them

Wow!  Thanks for sharing

Ok Donnie looks like he is right at home doing what he does everyday! lOL

Great video Jan

Thanks Lacy, it was very interesting how the coordinate that hammer and fold.  Like a beautiful steel dance

Hello Jan, Thank you for sharing. It look like Donnie was having fun.

Nathan

Looks like they've got one of those "Cheater" Double hollow grinding machines (I'm just kidding I'm jealous really).

Pretty cool!

Also their shop is a lot smaller than what I suspected. Cool stuff!

the grinding shop is in the basement, It is actually three levels
