Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I won 4 Benchmades back in 2001 or so, they are all labeled "First Proof 2 of 2", I had stashed them as graduation gifts for my 4 sons, they have not been carried and only have been handled. Son #1 already lost his, so the original group is not complete, I would like to engrave my kids names on them going forward since I did not with the first kid, I cannot find any reference if these have any additional value as proofs above the actual retail value of the knife, I do not want to engrave my kids name on it if there is some value to a collector out there, does anybody know of a group, link, or paper reference for determining value? Benchmade employees only response was " Ebay".

This is a tough one. I can find absolutely nothing on this set at all. Normally, FPR's (first production runs) don't really affect the resale value on a knife unless it has a serial number that someone really wants. With the knife roll and the engraved blades...well, that could change things. As a set, I would have said to not touch them until you can get a solid answer on their value. With one missing, I can't see the set getting as much as if it were complete, obviously. I'll do some more looking...but I would suggest maybe going onto a Benchmade Facebook Group and asking those fellows.

Ok, thanks for the response. Of course, this means I will have to go on Facebook:(

I won the set out of a contest run by Guns Magazine, I don't think there was any major significance to the "set" other than they were consecutive year second proofs.

I have a few feelers out there, and while no one seems to have seen this particular set, the general consensus thus far is *not* to have them engraved. One fellow has stated that there were probably very low numbers of these made. Possibly less than 5. I will keep you posted as I find more.

OK, thanks, I am waiting to get approved on the Facebook group too and post the same question.

I would check the "sold" listings on Ebay for each knife.

That would give you a ballpark idea of there value.

Unless your sons are really into knives, I would keep these and maybe go for a nice Case knife as a graduation gift. Most dealers will engrave them for you (for a small fee).

I was looking at that on Ebay, but the values varied a bit for just NIB knives of the same model, I just want to put these with a collector if they value them more than me as just an EDC knife. The boys all have Kershaw Leeks, more knives is better:)

My wife is the person on Facebook in my house and I got approval for her to be on the Benchmade group, I need to post on there too but no time this week.
