I thought this discussion was long overdue and I hope it will be an ongoing one-- Please post your best knives here, with a photo,a description, and the reason why. I have many a knife, but many of you have ten times more--Reasons could be-- most valuable, oldest, rarest, most beautiful, sharpest, most useful ,oddest, most sentimental, etc--- What makes this knife stand out in your collection. More than one entry is welcome, if in a different category, or just too close to call in your own mind- LOL--- A couple of mine follow-

Most beautiful- A 1999 Paua (New Zealand Abalone) 8254SS Case trapper with Shell shield-1 of 250

Best dating--You all know how hard it is to date a knife-- On this one I know the EXACT day it was made- A Pocket Worn Green Bone New Miilenium 6254SS trapper-made on 01-01-00-- 1 of 50

Most valuable and rarest--Case Classic Mastodon Ivory 20071/2 light trapper prototype- 1 0f 5

Sentimental Knife

Dads Boker......Well used was a conversation piece .....this knife will always have a place in my heart.

I saw dad cut wood chips, leather, rope, split wires, cut up apples and oranges, with this knife it was used for I mean

everything...he carried it at work too...

This Schrade Bowie in Sambar Stag was my very first custom, made for me, knife. 2 years after my first Email to Herman Williams, he re-handled 2 knives for me. Another year went by before he volunteered to make me a Bowie. He's done several customs for me now, but this was the first and with my own serial # to boot.

Thanks for all the nice comments. Here's the story of how I got it.

Herman represented Schrade at the knife shows, displayed his Schrade collection and sold Schrades Wholesale and Retail. At the end of the show he'd award one of his custom Schrades to whoever had the best Schrade Collection at the show. A Schrade Bowie with Sambar Stag handles came up for sale on Ebay with the story that it was one of these Award knives from the 80's. The blade was inscribed Best Schrade Collection and had Herman's name on the tang, but knowing how a story can stretch over more than a 30 year period, I sent Herman the item # and asked if the story was true. He said it was accurate,and if I was interested, he could make me my own Bowie for less than the one on Ebay. When Herman takes a job, he doesn't mess around. I had my Bowie in about 10 days, file work and all. The Bowie on Ebay didn't sell and about 3 months later the seller had dropped the price by $100....I made an offer. In the picture of the displays on my bedroom wall, the center frame with the red background has a Herman Williams Bowie with Best Schrade Collection engraved on the blade.

This knife has the most sentimental value to me. My grandmother got it at the 1904 Worlds Fair in St. Louis.

I always have a hard time with this question. I have been fortunate enough over the years to have received many wonderful gifts and they will always be my favorites.

This Case 3254 SS Whitetail trapper is special to me because of the way I acquired it. I found it on Reed Cutlery's web site. I was going to buy it but was waiting for Uncle Sam to replenish my bank account at the end of the month. I would go to their web site every day or two to drool over it. And I couldn't help but mention in the chat room that I was drooling over it and was going to buy it. One day I went to the web site to drool yet again but it was gone! Somebody had bought it! I searched but there was none to be found. I mentally kicked myself. Why didn't I buy it instead of waiting? But one day the mailman left a package in my mailbox. It was from Reed Cutlery. I thought, "What is this? I ordered nothing from them." I opened it. It was my knife! Someone had bought it and had it sent to me anonymously! I am sure it was someone on iKC but to this day I don't know who. So this knife will always be special to me because someone who had never physically met me thought enough of me to buy it and have it sent to me.
