It is celluloid
Hi Kevin, short version of the story- Good Earth is a celluloid handle material later replaced by more stable synthetics like Corelon or Delrin-The Good Earth celluloid looks remarkably like wood, so it it is easy to mistake, especially from a photo- Anyhow, here is my own Case Classic Good Earth- A 1993 model 2007 1/2 trapper- 1 of 250 produced-

I see what you mean it does look like a really nice burlwood type knife its beautiful! would live to get my hands on a large chunk of it to make some hunting knife or skinner or heck even a Trapper or two handles very nice looking material. I wonder if that is raw just material that is just polished or does it has some type of rub on or spray on high gloss finish.I like it!
Kevin,
I adore the old celluloid's. I do not think anyone has made a comparable version of it in the acrylics as of yet but some are trying very hard. The 2 problems with it
1) Extremely flammable during production. Many factory fire are attributed to it
2) gasses off after years and destroys the blade and knife with it because it is corrosive.
In the acrylics it is a sheet of material and just polished with extremely fine to remove scratches, I assume the celluloid was polished in the same manner
Kevin, they actually made a Case Classic celluloid handle called Burlwood-Like Jan said, they made some beautiful celluloid handles, but as it was unstable I know of no one who makes it anymore- Hopefully, someone wil come up with a comparible handle material using the new more stable synthetic material like Corelon- BTW, some of the gloss you see is because I periodically treat my knives with Flitz polish- Not only great on the blades, but also great on other material , such as celluloid handles- Available in most any knife supply catalogue or Ace hardware-Here is my 1993- Case Classic 2007 1/2 Burlwood trapper-1 of 250-Hard to believe that is celluloid, and not real burlwood-
