Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I recently "found" a knife that I have had for years but forgotten about; the certificate says "Aviator", manufactured by Chris Reeve. Serial Number 150, date 22 june 86. D2 steel. Hollow handle, octagonal butt cap.The only markings are the CR symbol and the serial number"150", It's one of his one-piece knives, I purchased from Brigade Quartermasters years ago. But the blade is 7" and I can't find any info on the web indicating that he ever made this model with this blade size. Its never been used, with sheath and certificate. Does anyone have any info? I'm thinking about selling it.

This looks a bit like yours, Dave.
Different steel though.

Found this in another thread, so we know D2 would be correct for the timeline and also that the records were not as well kept at that time.  I believe what you have is an early low run, not standard production.  For your own knowledge, before you price this out, I would contact Chris and ask him http://www.chrisreeve.com/contact.html#contactemailus

"When Chris first started making the One Piece knives, they were all from D2. It was in February of 1987 that he changed to A2. Since then, we have made a very few out of D2 but that was because we could not get A2. Regrettably no records of how many, which or when!"

Very nice! I would jump on buying this...but I know by the time you get all the info on it, it will be out of my price range! LOL. Awesome "find"!

Just got an email from Anne Reeve, the certificate and knife are authentic, it seems someone goofed with the model...its a MkIV. Been laying on a shelf for 30 years.

Dave,

Thanks for the update.  After reading that article I linked you to, I was wondering if that was the case!  Can they get you a corrected one?  I don't know that I would sell it.  I am a nut about those type of things.  I would keep the original, print out the email and ask for a corrected copy.  It is now a knife with a story!

Jan:

Anne Reeve was very friendly and helpful, I should get a corrected copy in the mail shortly. Then I'll put all the documentation together and decide what to do. More than likely I will sell it, though. I bought it back at the end of the cold war (Aahh..the "good old days" of the Cold War..) when we were concerned about the sky filling with Russian paratroopers and the Soviet tanks coming across the eastern borders of Europe...but know I'm a bit more concerned about my arthritis and retirement. But the two Randalls I bought when I was in the Army I will keep...
