Mary-I have looked at a couple of his other boot daggers and my best estimate would be in the $400-500 range.Perhaps a little less,no offense intended,but being personalized with your late husband's initials might deter some potential buyers.My suggestion would be just to call Pat Crawford. He is a very nice man and would be more than happy to tell you about when your #288 boot dagger was made and its current value.I know he has done this cheerfully when others have called with questions.

Hi Mary

I have gotten to know Pat Crawford and his son Wes over the past couple of years, and they are fantastic people and very kind.  I know that they would be happy to speak with you.

Value?  Well, a lot of custom collectors can be very picky (like myself if I'm being honest).  Condition appears to be quite nice with a small bit of wear, and then there is the personalization.  Come folks don't care for that, to other's it simply makes no difference.  I would agree that the value of the knife would be in the $300-$500 range, depending on a closer inspection, the up-close condition of the knife and sheath, details of the knife and what someone would be willing to pay.

If I did not live in a state with many ridiculous laws on cutlery, I would make an offer on it myself.  I really do enjoy the Crawford's work, and for me that kind of personalization on the blade would not bother me a bit.  Adds a lot to its history in my opinion.  I hope things go well and best of luck with the sale!  Any other questions on this or any others, please ask away!

Mary- Of course, but Bryan Wyszkowski's name  (Bryan W) would probably mean more to Pat than mine.Bryan W writes for Knife World magazine and I am proud to call him my friend. BTW, you can trust any advice Bryan gives you as much as you do mine.

I have some more info on some of your other knives I will send you tomorrow.

Mary, you are certainly welcome to use my name.  Pat is a wonderful guy.  I am going to be writing an article on him soon, actually running behind a bit on it, but give him my best!

Any information, especially from the maker himself, is a great addition to the value of a knife.  I will look at your photos again and likely talk to you about possible values on some of them.

John there is one beautiful fixed blade with wood handles within the photo album, whose makers mark I do not recognize.  Appears to be a set of initials.  I'll have to do some digging myself, and lets see what we can come up with.

At a minimum its worth $10,000 and if its that Pete Creager trying to buy it I would double that price.  Sorry I just had to. Ha Ha.
