The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
This unofficial survey is to determine who has purchased knives on eBay and a brief description of your experience. Would you do it again if you were a first timer? For those iKC members not based here in US what has your experience been using eBay? We are not looking at the seller experience just yet, only buyer. two main questions but fill in other information as needed.

Howdy Hog,
I'm not an knife guy. Instead, I'm the group's token woodworker. They guys -and a great bunch of guys they are-- let me hang around 'cause I write good, (?), and have opinions on displaying good stuff. Good stuff like knives.
This being said, I don't but a lot of stuff on eBay anymore. Used to buy and sell both, but now it seems to me that the published prices are a come-on. By the time you add in (utterly ridiculous) S&H charges, the prices are as much as Walmart. (I do occasionally but odd / old things Walmart don't carry.
Now I have to say I buy lots of books from half.com, and I think ebay owns them. F;rinstance, I just collected up all the Horation Hornblower books and reread them for the first time sence my long ago and largelymis-spent youth.
(Can I get an AMEN on Hornblower?)
Bill
I do buy some knives on eBay but not often.
I also buy other things on the bay ,it's a go to place for hard to find items.
and I sell a little on it also.

Hi Bill, I've been contemplating re-reading Mr Forester's tales of adventure and high seas. The details have left me after 45 to 50 years, but I recall they were a great source of enjoyment years ago. All the best, Bill

1) Yes.
2) About 25 give or take per year. Good place to search out the old and hard to find as well as price compare on newer blades. Most experiences have been good. One unexpected handle chip and one no show which buyers protection plan resolved are the only really bad experiences.
1. I don't use ebay for buying knives. Iam planing to do that, because I have a problem with partner in US. who was ordered knives to me.
I have found on ebay a bulk of good knives, but unfortunately shipping is too expensive or store don't ship knives to my country.
1. Yes
2. depends
I usually only buy from sellers that I have done business with before, unless it's one I have been searching for a long time. Some sellers I won't buy from no matter how RARE they say their knife is. I usually set a limit on the amount I'll give and don't get into bidding wars.
Yes, I have bought knives on eBay. I am always watching eBay for a surprise, or a deal, but purchase maybe 1 every other month. Pictures are very important to me or I will ignore the listing.
Most sellers are kind to Canadian buyers. However, I gave 1 bad rating for a shipping ripoff. USPS is best, UPS is the worst!
I have purchased a few. Never had any problems.
Once I paid too much, could have bought it for less at a store, but that was my fault. I bid too high!
I've never really bought an expensive knife on eBay though.
I would like to purchase a few more inexpensive knives to give as Christmas/Birthday gifts.
It's certainly fun looking at what's out there!

I have bought some nice rare CATTARAUGUS and JACK KNIFE BEN knives on e-bay. This has helped me connect with other collecters and then we by pass ebay.I have also sold alot of other brands on ebay to help pay for the ones I collect. This helps to keep me out of trouble and out of the bars.
