Do you collect folding knives by pattern, series or brandname????

I have an ever expanding list of knives on my potential purchase list.  Is it best to collect by pattern ( trapper, muskrat) series (black pearl, coal miner) or brandname ( rough rider, case) ??

I don't have too many pink knives.  I think this is all of them, but there could be a few others one hiding in boxed or drawers.

Left to right, top to bottom.

Victorinox Pink Edelweiss Classic

Victorinox Pink Classic SD

Rough Rider "Support the Cause" Pink Bartender

Esee Izula

Rough Rider "Support the Cause" Pink Pen Knife

Rough Rider "Pink Lemonade"  Canittler

I have a lot in the RR pink lemonade and Hot Pink series. I also have a pink Bear and Son and some pink Remington's.

Well i would have to say a little or lot of everything ,although I am partial to fixed blade Case knives with Stag handles,Pumas, I'll buy most Pumas i come across, old Camillus folders,Older Schrade fixed, and just about any Gerber, anything sharp to skin deer with, even like some of the new assisted openers,Yup ,whatever  i like when i see it.

hang on cause we are going to explore this one again!

Sounds like fun.

I used to collect by pattern then one day decided to collect only older, less known brands.

This opened me up to all kinds of patterns from sowbellies to cattleman and harness jacks.

I collect mainly two brands, Case and Rough Rider.  I also collect two patterns, Mini Blackhorns and fish knives.  Of course Mini Blackhorns are a subset of Case.

Mostly by pattern or brandname, I guess, but mostly how the knife feels in my hand, and if I just plain like it.

This is always a fun topic for discussion.

As for patterns I prefer the Stockman patterns made by Great Eastern Cutlery, mostly because I was ranch raised and  because I feel Bill Howard at GEC builds a superior knife.

Among the seven 100 year old Mother of Pearl, Bruckmann folders that I have each is of a different pattern chosen because some are quite unusual and all are interesting to me.

Above all I believe one should collect what you like and enjoy what you collect.  I spend a lot of quality time enjoying my knives.

Since we only acquire and hold for a time anyway, I usually buy them then when I decide to collect something new in pattern or brand, I will sell off the others to acquire the thing. As I say this, I also will keep the more valuable or lesser found pieces for a longer time.

I collect the A.G. Russell Texas Ranger series. Plus some Russell knives when I can get a good price on them.

I just loved the way my first one (the 2010 Sunfish lockback) felt and ended up buying the whole series from then on. Even managed to track down the 2008, 2009 and last week the 2001 versions.

Other than that....anything I deem special enough and that I can get for a low enough price. Plus the occasional custom knife.
