Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Ok John, Ive seen a bunch of info on gauchos and Punal but I cant find much on the maker of the hilt and scabard on mine. Its marked  F. Carosella on both the scabard and the butt of the handle. The blade is easy, a french Dufour. If you can find the maker that would help date it too. thanks

Michael, to confirm the obvious-- Dufour was a famous French importer of gaucho knives and the squared bolsters and file work scream Argentina, rather than Brazil, etc,- Not my first rodeo concerning gaucho knives-LOL-  3 questions

1- Are you sure the silversmith is from Argentina ?? More than likely correct, but wondering why you stated that

2- Are you sure the first initial is F.-- Unclear in the photo

3- Have you searched the silver work on the sheath and handle with a magnifying glass for silver hallmarks??--- Many times, they are very small, but they are the most accurate way of dating the silver work-- Just the other day, I bought an old Imperial  gold filled watch fob knife-- The company that did the gold work, M.S. Co. and 14k gold filled were invisible to the naked eye, but showed up under magnification on the attachment, much to my surprise--

John,

1 Not 100% positive but I had found something about him on an internet search last year but cant find it again and im sure it was an Argentine silversmith.

2  Yes, double checked with magnifier and it is F. CAROSELLA

3. No halmarks anywhere, again used the magnifier. The only mark is the maker. I do know that alot of south of our border silver is not marked though.
