Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Hi everyone I am new to the forum. I have collected knives since I was a young kid. about 2 years ago I started making knives. All were fixed blades but very recently I started doing folders (still a lot to learn on them.) I am curious about  some things you guys may like or dislike on folders. The first is really a design choice how many of you like a regular liner lock with a thumb stud to open. And how many of you like "flippers" not the ones with springs I am talking about the ones with ball bearings around the pivot (although they do open using a flipper tab like a spring assisted knife).  Other than that there are a million different handle materials out there like obviously wood, carbon fiber, g10, micarta, then there are things like timascus (multi coloed titanium patterns) there is titanium texture tech wich is somewhat similar to timascus but has a texture to it. Dama steel was originally made as a patterned blade steel but more and more I am seeing it used as a bolster material....I am just curious how many people like these materials or anything I may have forgot and also design flipper vs thumb stud.

I am usually quite versatile in my tastes in folders. Love me a framelock! Some linerlocks are good too. Thumbstuds properly placed are alright, so long as you don't rip your thumb apart using them...lol. I am a sucker for a good wood handle, and not a big fan of stag or bone. I like a handle/scale to have some grip. G10 is okay. Titanium I prefer for the framelock instead of the handle. I love assisted opening knives, flippers are fine too. So many options out there!

I usually stick with a traditional slip joint like the slimline and mini trappers. I do like the trapper lock from Case that has a thumb stud and liner lock. As far as handles, I'd have to say I like stag, bone and wood but also have some synthetics. Sooooo many choices!!

I have found that my horizons have widened over the years here.  My heart is still very attached to a beautiful traditional but I have learned to appreciate a well made flipper that fits in the hand and opens smoothly one handed.
