Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

I bought these to knives at auction. I have no idea what they are worth. I guy at the auction said they were very rare. Based on how little information I can find he may be right.

Having a difficult time uploading pictures

ok Mike, thought I would try to help you display the pics. Looks like they are all here in one place now.  Will see if John is around also to help you.

These were made by Kevin Davey--He is a Britisher who moved to the United States. I believe he first lived in Grand Island , Florida and was a member of the Florida Knifemakers Assoc.  He has moved around a lot. He called his business in Florida Coutel Cutlery Inc. He also had a business in Texas called Coutel Forge-I believe he also lived  in North Carolina and possibly Tennessee- I think he started making knives around 2002.The smaller of your knives was made while he was in Florida which would be around 2003 or 2004.He has changed his makers mark a few times which is not uncommon. Some of his knives are just marked Kevin Davey. Haven't heard anything from him since 2013, so I don't know if he is still making knives or not.Have only seen a couple of his knives. They were posted over at British Blades forum. I have never seen one for sale, so I have no idea on value. I do know that other makers have said nothing but good things about the quality and craftsmanship of his knives.

Thank you John! Never heard of him, and he seems to move a lot. Who know perhaps Jan will see him at Blade......

Mike-A little more on your knives-The ones marked Coutel are his earlier knives and the ones marked Kevin Davey are his later works. From what I can gather for a while he only made knives part time- making only 2 knives a month. Also for personal reasons, he took a couple year Sabbatical from knife making. There was also a period of time when he was not making knives for sale while he worked on passing his ABS Journeyman test. His knives are scarce and judging from the glowing praise for his works on numerous knife forums from other seasoned blade smiths, I would guess  highly sought after.Anyhow, here is a link with a couple of pics of another of his knives plus a lengthy discussion and review about it.

Here are a couple more pics of his knives I managed to find.

Hi John,

I actually talked to him this morning. It took some digging but with the information you gave me I found he is actually living about 35 miles from me. They are definitely his early work from Florida. He is not currently making knives but said he may start again. Thank you so much for the information you provided. Mike

Mike- Glad that I could be of service--- Just to satisfy my curiosity, did he give you any indication as to value or how many knives he made??

wooohoo!!!   Contact with the maker and he is close by?  It does not get any better than that!

No it doesn't very nice man. Told me when they were made, where and even what steel he used. The 2 knives I have were never supposed to be sold.
