The online community of knife collectors, A Knife Family Forged in Steel
Hello Everyone and thanks for letting me join your community. I found an 8" Bowie knife in a $20 bin at my local gun show. I understand that to keep the value of knives you really shouldn't clean them up. I took one look at this rusty mess and decided A - I loved it and B - I was going to clean it up and continue its cherished use.
I was drawn to this blade because of its character. Lots of deep gouges, dings, you can just tell that someone used (and hopefully enjoyed) it.
I couldn't find any makers marks on the knife but I'd like to know its story if it has one. More for my personal knowledge than trying to assign a value.
I've included some before and after shots of the blade. If rookies cleaning up weathered blades makes you grumpy please ignore my post (:

Looks like a good cleaning job there.
Nice! Great "user" and good job cleaning it up!
Likely a German-made "bowie" originally. Any markings on it whatsoever Matt?
ROFL, I just read your remark

You are really going to like iKC Matt. Personally, I would rather see you clean it up, give it some love and put it back in use. For me, a knife that holds high dollar value should be left alone. A knife that can be a potential user, should be one. They were made to be used !
