How Many Knives Do You Buy in a "Normal" Year; How about this Year?

Here we are at the midway point of the year or so. Buy the usual amount of knives this year? Or are the rising prices and the pressing economic crunch just too much. Has it affected you and what has it caused you to do? Buy Smarter, Buy Less, Pick Up Great Bargains?

I bought 1 large fixed blade and 2 folders to use and 4 folders for my collection. I might have bought more than last year. I am retired and the economic crunch doesn't effect me, just them two grand daughters I raise effects me.
I'm with you on that Robert don't do near what I used to but my kids are mostly grown except for my youngest who is in college. I appreciate the response though and we'll put you down as a little better than last year.

I am still buying too many, but I am more selective in my buying and it comes in spurts as I have the money. I've been trying to buy knives mainly made in the USA or Germany. I've also been buying more on ebay as I have been getting some pretty good buys there. The other imports have been Rough Rider or the imported Remington's which are made in the same factory. I bought a Green stag Remington whittler that had impressive quality for an import from China.
I'm glad you mentioned eBay because is it just me, or are we seeing some knives become available that really are pretty good quality for a good or at least a better price than even 6 months ago.

Hog, the price of knives has dropped on Ebay. The selling price . It's a buyers market. When the economy goes back up it'll adjust. That's how I see it.

So far I've bought 5 knives this year. And that may come up to a total of 8 or so. I'm not sure yet.

Mostly A.G. Russell knives and 1 CRKT

A.G. Russell:

2010 Texas Ranger

Sowbelly Trapper

large folding Hocho

Regular curved jack (wharncliffe) (which is still on it's way)

and 1 CRKT McGinnis SHRIMP.

That's great Alex, I've bought alot of knives from Mr. A.G. over the years and I have not had any trouble with the knives yet. They are good to do business with. MR. A.G. is a member of IKC.
between us we average 4 knives in a good month.  Some months more
One a month is the best I can hope for and then maybe not that many. I wish I could find one of those good months Miss Jan is talking about. What ever you can get an afford and not effect those that depend on you is the right way to collect. A knife that cost a 100 dollars might not mean much to one collector but might mean a whole lot to another. It's the enjoyment we get out of the knife we purchase not the value. This is just the ideas of an old cajun hunter.
That is so true, sometimes its waiting, anticipating it and then its just enjoying it regardless of price. I'm sure there are collectors who may buy less quantity but more quality. Some good bargains to be had with careful shopping.
Usually I will buy one to two a month.  However with my kid here and economy taking a hit on my and my wife's income I have only been able to pick up three so far this year.  Hopefully it will change soon but kid is more important so my days collecting might have to slow down until he gets much older.  It will be hard though with the Dixie Gun and Knife show coming up here in a few weeks not to pick up something.
I hear that Kit! Definitly have to set your priorities and pace yourself. Somewhere down the road maybe your son will develop a love for knives too. That would be good. If you get a chance make sure Dixie Gun and Knife Show is in our events calender maybe some of our other iKC members will be interested in meeting you there.
