iKnife Collector 2012 Community Knife/We Want Your Opinion On Our Next!

Moving forward in bringing to life the iKnife Collector 2012 Community Knife!!!

So far we are all in the pocket knife camp and we have had some great discussions about style..  Thank you Alexander for putting my thoughts into a language we all speak,

Frame first, then blades, then handle materials then extra's?

So far if I have been listening correctly we are looking at

Stockman

Whittler

Toothpick

Moose

Canoe

Barlow

1/2 congress

dogleg jack

My vote is for the Geppetto whittler.  For those of you unfamiliar with the pattern

SO TELL ME WHAT IS YOUR VOTE FOR THE FRAME/PATTERN???

How about modify one of those Cattle Ranchers by switching two of the blades for a flathead screwdriver and a can opener.......and make a big scout type knife that way? I'd love that, functionality of a SAK combined with blades and build from GEC.

Lets look at Sharp Fans knife of the year for last year. It was a meduim bone handle, with three blades, a main with two minor blades. I wonder what their price point was, we have members here that belong to both so that should not be hard to find out. Should the knife be made with a price limit, I think so, but not so much as to have a cheap type knife. I think we all want a special knife at the most affordable price we can get. I think the makers may have enough info by now to make some sort of knife that will agree with alot of members.

Robert,

Do we know anyone that may be able to provide us the info?

It was a Queen 48 pattern whittler.  Came in at about $95.00, as I recall.  Billy Oneale posted a pic of his...

I'm still wanting another Geppetto though.  Cost may be higher than with the Queen, but SF is still holding available knives for all the past years.  They did a run of 150 for the whittler, last year.

It was $92.95 for that whittler.

JJ and Billy,

Thank you for the info, I sincerely appreciate all the input.  It all helps us, not only in knowing what is out there but also when negotiating our newest.  You are all awsome

I've looked at some of GEC's specal knives thay make and they do some great knives I hope we can stay with them and get some of there knives up to look at, we can put up say about 4 or 5 and we can vote for, that would be the easiest way to go at it

I am surprised we have not had tactical questions or requests for a tactical.

I am also.  I had thought we would have to consider two this year a very short run of tacticals if we could manage it and the traditionals.

Blade show in june is the first discussions with folks that make knives.  Then in July I will sit down with Bill at GEC.  My plan is to have all the ideas and bargaining power before that last meeting

Max,

My friend you put up any suggestions you have.  I can use all the help I get.  I continue to be grateful to all of you for your contributions this year, it truly makes it easier.

I have a question for our folks not in the USA.  I certainly want to be sure what we choose is able to get to you with no issues.  Are there any restrictions I should know about?

Some basics restrictions are the same the world over like no switchblades (automatics), ballisong (Butterfly), double edged daggers although some countries will allow switchblades...Queensland in Australia is passing a no assisted opening (AO) knives like the US Custom tried to impose.

To paraphrase Lincoln, "You can't please all the people all the time"
