Welcome Home...THANK YOU FOR BEING A PART OF OUR COMMUNITY

Hi, I recently found this small pocket knife at a garage sale and 'm wondering anyone could offer me some info about it. The folded knife is 3" long, main blade is 2" long, 2nd blade is broken, it is stamped Made in Germany on one side of the main blade and ERMA Sollingen on the other. The most intriguing thing to me is the pressed in shape of an ocean going ship. I'm not sure if the handle is cellulose or plastic, I did the test with 800 grit sand paper but the only scent that came from it smelled like pine, not the mothball smell or plastic smell.

I would really like to find out what ship is that is represented on the handle but really have no idea where to start.

Thanks for looking, Chris

That is a very interesting knife you have. I haven't found much on it myself yet. I did find a couple of similar ones, but nothing on them yet. I hope someone is able to help you out. Glad to have you with us here at iKC.

Here are a couple more pics,

Not your knife, but could be a companion...

Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/351879015459
Found this, on ETSY no less...

Ernst Mandewirth was one of the great razor makers that was established in Solingen in the early 1900's.
Ernst Mandewirth. Solingen: Solingerstrasse 48 in 1908-10, Katternbergerstrasse 174 in 1922-39, and Felderstrasse 68 in 1963. Brand names: 'E.M.S.', 'Erma' (1919), 'Lesal' (1909), 'Perplex' (1909), 'Rizal' (1904).

ERMA Werke are a well known Germany Arms Manufacturer - even made some Rifles & rifle parts (M1) for American Brands such as Ithaca.

It wouldn't be a big stretch to suggest they may have made cutlery as well.
