Is there anything more relaxing then collecting knives?

I have had a long few weeks here in Texas, daughter in the hospital, wife with her, work was getting slow. I was about to loose my mind! Outside of prayer, it seemed that playing with my knife collection was the only thing that gave me any relaxation. I even got my oldest daughter involved in how to go about constructing a new knife display. This seemed to help her too!

I have always collected knives and really love the guys, big or small, but never really appreciated the relaxation that it gave me. I found that appreciation over the past few weeks.

There are many things in our lives we can find joy in.....knife collecting is one of the best for me. Hunting, finding, displaying, and enjoying, It is a never-ending quest, that I know will never grow old. so glad that there are others out there that obviously have the same views as do.

So thankful I found this site FULL of others that have the same view!

Well said Steven and we have so many who no doubt share that. Its a great hobby that means so much to folks. They can be passed generation to generation and still do their jobs. and ,if they come with a story, its even better!

Without my knives (hobbies) I would have gone insane LOOONG ago! Though my wife says I DID go insane years ago and I'm in a delusional state.......and I thought I was in North Carolina.

steve the only thing i can think of that is better is time with my kids...but inbetween the days or weeks ,the knives,folks,clubs,late nights up studying,writing..on and on!....so what im saying is yes i agree...i also like a nice cigar.

I agree. I tell people that this is my decompression chamber. I would probably go nuts without all of you and knives. LOL, that word always reminds of Craig these days

Collecting soothes so many aspects of my character:

1. Hunter- searching for "that knife" is exhilarating.

2. Haggling- Negotiating a deal where both parties are happy(but, mostly me)

3. "The Smeagol effect"- Cleaning and polishing "my Precious"

I'm not feeling so relaxed today. Third Wednesday is coming. I'm getting a hit-enter-itching-index-finger. I'm starting to squirm in my computer seat. My heart rate is going up. Maybe knife collecting isn't so relaxing after all.......

I agree with all of the above but there is the rush I get when I complete a deal for a knife that I really want for my collection. You know when your acting like you like it a little bit but only if you can get it for the right price and your mind is telling you that your going to buy it no matter if your wife finds out or not.

Well, since it is winter and the floating on a raft in the pool on a hot sunny day is out < #1 for me...

It has to be knife research , pulling out the books and surfing the net...This is my #1 for the winter. The cleaning of knives

and remembering when and where they were purchased, along with the fun trips to find all this knife jewelry, just adds to

some quality QUIET time...

At the end of the month I can see how stressful the day job has been by the amount of whittling that has taken place. There is something very relaxing about carving wood, whether it's a bonafide arty piece or just putting a point on a stick. That and a cuppa tea and a banjo and a shed...
