Knife Rights: North Carolina House Passes Concealed Knife Carry Bill

The North Carolina House passed HB 439, our Concealed Knife Carry bill, with a bipartisan vote of 71-37. The bill now moves to the Senate.

This bill would clarify the state's previously vague statute so that a folding knife that is not a switchblade may be carried concealed by anyone, including those under age 18.

It would also allow adults who are not prohibited persons to carry concealed a "bowie [SIC] knife, a dirk, a dagger, a switchblade..." and "a bladed weapon of like kind." Concealed carry of these knives would be banned in "a place where a concealed handgun is prohibited from being carried."

Knife Rights Director of Legislative Affairs, Todd Rathner, worked with our sponsor, Rep. Keith Kidwell, to amend the original bill to remove length limits and other restrictions in the initial filed version. We sincerely appreciate Rep. Kidwell's efforts that moved this bill across the finish line in the House. We'd also like to thank our good friends at Grass Roots North Carolina, Paul Valone and Sean Sorrentino, for their help and support.

We will let you know as soon as it is appropriate to contact your North Carolina Senator to support HB 439.

Okay, THIS IS IMPRESSIVE!  To get something like this passed -- something that would basically allow sword carry -- in even ONE part of a legislative body is pretty dang incredible.  Nicely done, KNIFE RIGHTS!
