A good sheath is necessary for a camp knife.

Sometimes, custom knifes have a real nice looking sheath to keep your custom blade in.

A good sheath should pull triple duty:  protect the carrier & others from the blade edge, protect the blade edge from the elements, & carry the knife efficiently -- bonus if it looks good while doing all three!

I've come to appreciate the fitted tube sheaths such as the one used on the USAF E-1 Survival knife.   This was the first surival knife issued for the newly established Air Force after it split from the U. S. Army.

The knife was made by Boker and is a essentially their Boker 155 B&T with a lanyard hole added..   However the sheath was much different.   See the  images below for comparison, in both photos, the Boker 155 is on top and Boker E-1 on the bottom. The tube sheath holds the knife much more securely than the standard sheath but allows easy one hand retrieval and replacement  Pure Genius!

Kydex or Leather?  What type of sheath do you prefer for your fixed blade knives?

Some knives do not need a Sheath.

I prefer my Pommel(s) to be both functional and Decorative!

The pommel is the raised knob on the front of a Western saddle.

Not all knives have a pommel.

I prefer a pommel on a dagger .. maybe a boot knife ..but.. that's it !!!

Replacing the pommel on my old western knife wasnt as easy as I thought it would be.

Longclaw is a bastard sword or hand and a half sword, which means it is a good half a foot longer than a standard long sword, tapered to thrust as well as slash. With three fullers incised into the blade to reduce weight. There are ripples in the dark steel indicating it is of Valyrian steel. It has a bear's head for the pommel
