Found this item at a flea market, I guess it would be a fantasy type item,,,,,, I have not identified it yet (nor the material as there are no markings)..... but I just liked it.... it is 14 inches long...... any thoughts welcomed....

first thought?  It is really kinda cool!

I would think more ceremonial than fantasy?

I'm with Jan on the "coolness" factor.

.

A very unique piece for any collection.

Definitely .. a conversation starter.

.

Strictly a WAG ..but.. brass or bronze for material !?!?!

Assuming it was fairly priced .. I'd have certainly purchased it.

.

Enjoy

D ale

Robert--It is a Phurba, a Tibetan Ritual dagger, or a fascimile of a real one. There was a Phurba dagger in the movie "The Shadow"  the old radio show crime fighter. These were not sharp as they were not used on humans, but ceremonially against demons, etc. You can find a more detailed explanation here.http://www.himalayanmart.com/PhurbaRitualDagger.php

another example of one-

Thank you John ..... more info and another lead.... The metal is silver in color appears to be hollow (if you shake it you hear noise ) solder or weld marks  at lower neck.  Using a very strong magnet it is slightly magnetic.....    it appears to be a copy of this one.....   http://www.buddhamuseum.com/gilt-phurba-14_08.html

Robert- I don't know what you paid for this at the flea market, but even the replicas bring some pretty good money. In any event, a fascinating and wonderful find !!

Any idea of possible price.... I am interested in selling.... tnx

Robert-It's difficult to value these as the prices are all over the map?? Ones copying" The Shadow" movie dagger or apparently a game called " Uncharted 2" can get ridiculous in price. However, there are a lot of practicing Buddhists who still seek Phurba daggers, replica or not, for religious reasons or a sense of well being. A large 14" dagger like yours should bring from a low of $40-$100 +.Average price $60 and up. Best advice I can give you is put in on Ebay with a reserve and see what happens !!. Like I said, gamers, fan boys, and practicing Buddhists all like these daggers. Crazy world we live in these days !!

Robert,

Just for future reference, if it does sell could you let us know?  If your not comfortable in the open forum, just let John know :)

John,

Great Job again!

Hi Thanks Jan.

It is for sale... Although I really think the item is cool I just can't collect everything. . I would rather to sell to collectors than flea bay...

Cheers  Rob
