Stephen,
Hate to break it to you but no. Too many anomalies.
The tang stamp is off, crocked and the XX does not line up, looks cold stamped
The stag is not 40-64, the style on here appears to be 80's or even newer
The nail nick on the master blade is not correct either
Sorry buddy, hope they did not get you for too much
Wow, I had looked at it via my smartphone lastnight. Jan is right, the tang stamp doesn't look authentic. But like you said, now you can put it in your user rotation. As long as it can hold an edge, it can be used.
Hey a new user for a reasonable price is never a bad thing
Fellows, I am asking this just for my own education. I still class myself an amateur at this knife collecting game. Are you saying it is a counterfeit Case or just a newer Case? It would still be very easy for me to be taken in so this would be a good lesson for me also.
Charles,
I don't believe this one is authentic. Just too many things that are not quite right. But for 20.00 it should make one very fine user
Yep and she is a member here too: http://www.iknifecollector.com/profile/KatieShontsSaar?xg_source=pr...

I brought the knife to my local master case dealer. She along with several other looked it over and over and compared it to many pre 64 a d newer knives with really the only difference being the wear overall including the stamped area. With her store inventory and the years spent dealing in case knives she is considered an expert. That being said she couldn't safe it was a fake and everyone there agreed. The oddities with the knife were not any different than the other showcase knives. I was told to send pics and info to the historian on the case website for a more accurate judgement call. Either way I'm proud to have it and glad to be a part of healthy friendly discussions such as the ones on this site. I'll keep y'all posted.
Wow!! Jan, you sure know your stuff!! As a newer collector these are things I need to know. I guess to us newbies this knife would have been accepted as the real deal. You (Jan) need to come in a pocket version so we can all take you with us when we are buying older knives!! I still think the knife is a nice looking piece for EDC. And thanks to Steven for showing it to us!!!

Finally heard back from Case. They said going by the pictures I sent, the knife is legitament. The stamp is a little light but they have seen others similar, everything else, pins, shield, etc. all seemed to be accurate.
Good enough info for me to take it out of my pocket and put it up. Thanks Everyone
Now that's cool. Now you know for sure.
