Last month I was a t a fairly large flea market that I go to a couple times a year. As always I was looking for a good deal on a knife. I saw two case knives in a display case. One was new with the box, a brown bone slimline trapper and the other was and older stagg trapper. I had no idea how old though as I am kind of new to the art of dating case knives. I have a lot of them, just never was really into the history. I buy them to use, keep, and pass on just as my grandpaw did.

When I asked to see the knives I noticed a post it on the display for "1/2 off". The slimline was marked 39.00 and the old trapper 45.00 with half off that. To make a long story short I have heard from a Case Historian that to the best of their knowledge it is a legitimate Case XX '40-'64. This find opened up a whole new world for me and the knives I currently have and plan to buy in the future.

Steve, They sell books that help you date your case knives. It's very interesting. I have a large catalog that helps me date more than just Case knives so I take it with me and keep in the car when I go to sales. Cool looking find!!

Thanks Chuck,

Since I found this knife Ive actually looked at a few of the books, downloaded some date pages to my phone and my dealer even gave me a laminated wallet size case knife guide card. Its pretty neat for anyone out there that needs all this info at any given time.
