Should I complain to the seller about this knife?

This Providence Cutlery fish knife was a Buy It Now on eBay for $19.99 plus $4 shipping. It was advertised as Mint and the pictures showed no flaws or blemishes. The seller had ten to sell so the pictures could have been any one of the ten.

The blades and the bolsters are bright and shiny. The blades have no play or wobble and have excellent snap. There are no flaws or blemishes on the scales.

However there is a small area of corrosion on one bolster and the main blade. Also there are some fine scratches on the main blade. (See the last three pictures.)

My question is, do I have a legitimate complaint with the seller? I like the knife and it is in good condition. But I paid the Buy It Now price based on the seller's statement that it was Mint and the pictures showed no flaws.

According the the Standard Knife Collector's Guide the the grade MINT must be in "as new" condition. EXCELLENT condition consists of knives that are a close to mint as possible for really old knives, not exceeding more than 15% wear. Seems you bought an excellent knife but do you feel like you over paid for the knife?

That's not mint, get in touch with Ebay, they'll make it good. The seller will take it back before a negative report. If the seller had ten, he might not have inspected everyone. I know if you complain, he will take it back. The knife might be in good shape, just not mint, as advertised.

You have a good gripe but I wouldn't put his name up, unless he really did you wrong. Just my opinion. Good luck, things will happen, you know.

The same book shows Value high on the knife as 40 and low value as 9. I would certainly let the seller know that the knife is not mint. Maybe he doesnt know the difference or as Robert said, maybe he didnt inspect all his knives. Either way he should have known before advertising it as mint

Well for sure its not mint, which implies no errors, this has some but not sure how much of the price it affects. Maybe only a few dollars as otherwise its a good looking usable knife.

I agree, email seller show pics and ask how to resolve, listing claimed mint and its not.

I have posted a message for the seller. I asked if it would be possible to exchange it for another of the same knife. According to his listing, he still has three available. He originally had ten.

I stated I would wait to give feedback.

You should definitely tell the seller. Pictures and description are all we have to go on when buying from eBay, we are left at the seller's capacity to do the right thing and offer what they describe.

I had the same issue with a LB8 this week, the seller (cdiggersteen) described it well, that is until he described the lock up as "Firm". I have slipjoints I would feel more secure in using. I am sending it back because he wants to re-blade it and put it back on eBay.

I would suggest those who read this avoid buying things from this seller, his descriptions are questionable and that leads me to believe that practices are too.

I would contact the seller and see what they may do to adjust the price you paid. Mint means showroom quality with no flaws of any kind. If they don't want to make an adjustment or refund, whichever is acceptable to you, I'd contact PayPal and eBay. Give the buyer a chance first because sometimes people don't know what grading terms really mean. If they are reputable they will take care of you.

I have contacted the seller. He has offered to refund my money. But he has several of the same knife. And if he has one that really is mint, I would like to have it. Otherwise I will keep the one I have. I think it is worth what I paid for it, it just isn't mint like he advertised. I would rate it very good.
